someday i want to own a house with wood trim

also i need plants. i have no plants. i want plants in every room.

I love plants but it becomes an issue when going away on vacation. Usually I can put them in the tub with water halfway up and they've done well. This time around due to different apt and plants I am trying the upside down wine bottles in some. We'll see how they are after 3 weeks.

Does it have to be a good wine or will they be OK on the cheap stuff?

i need to buy a new couch and it's stressing me out!

the couch i have right now is great - we've had it probably 6-7 yrs, got it used from friends, it's stain-resistant, husky-having-a-tantrum-and scratching-furiously resistant, doesn't hold onto dog fur, it's pretty comfy. but it's fucking HUGE. it's too big for our small house and it's an ugly dark olivey-green.

the thing is, i spend a lot of time of the couch. and these are the things i want:
- comfy (not too firm, not too squishy)
- high-ish back
- on legs (i don't like the blocky look of couches that hit the floor - it takes over the room)
- simple design (i already have a lot going on, decor wise)
- must handle dogs well
- slim profile (no big rolled arms)
- not too shallow
- spacious two-seater, or smaller 3-seater

i've looked at Article and Joybird, but it's so hard to tell what's gonna feel comfortable - they offer returns but what a fucking hassle. i also looked at Burrow, but the fabric sounds weird and seems like it doesn't look anywhere near as good in person. i went to ikea tonight, but i didn't really like anything they had, except maaaaybe the Vimle.

does anyone have recommendations? my budget is probably around $1200. i would probably stretch to $1500 if it was The One.

also: i am pretty set on a medium-gray sort of color.

The Ikea Nockeby is very nice and very comfortable. it also has removable/washable covers and you can buy extra covers if you need to. it comes as a two or 3 seat couch or as a three seat with a chaise extension thingy.

thanks jed! but i don't like those really big/wide arm rests - that's one of the problems with our current couch.

I love so many of the article couches but I can see how impractical they would be with pets in the house.

Have you looked at Macy's? They have a lot of fabric sofas with a mid century/danish vibe going on for under $1000. I can't find the exact one I used to have in a light grey tweedy fabric but it was similar to the tufted back ones with scandinavian legs. They are fine comfort wise. I eventually gave it to a neighbor (we both had large dogs too) because I wanted a huge ass chesterfield

Oh man, now I am really lusting after this blush pink velvety sofa on Article.

I got a new sofa and matching love seat from Macy's last summer when we moved into a new place. First time I ever bought furniture that I hadn't sat on first but they were super cheap due to some sort of sale so both together were less than $1100 or so.

They're totally fine; definitely not family heirloom sturdiness so I have doubts about their longevity but they're comfortable, look good, and were cheap.

Yep^^^ it has a good price point for people with large dogs, like, you didn't really stress over ruining it. I think everyone is having a Mem day sale too (US).

i was originally set on a light to medium gray, but this teal would look good too - i have a sideboard type of thing, made of reclaimed wood, that has bits of copper green, teal-blue and dusky pink, which would complement it

i love going to furniture stores so that is a positive.

frustrating trying to find afforable & small enough configurations for our challengingly narrow living/dining room with three entrance doorways coming off it. RIP the amazing but-way-too-big blue velvet sectional i fell in love with :(

If i ever get a sofa again, I am going for the velvet. I had dreams of a green leather chesterfield, but when it came down to decision time I went for the classic dark brown. I sometimes regret not going bold, but since I have much too colorful surroundings the brown goes much better. Otherwise it would've looked like xmas all year round.

we have a long narrow living room, ended up going with a long sectional with a chaise on one end. it's working well.

i have gone from just wanting a basic bitch floofy 3 seater recliner to a sectional with chaise to a short sectional to two small separate couches back to a recliner and ._.

i just want a good comfy couch to show up on my doorstep

Xps yerac there is a couch at a local store I’m in love with - it’s a velvet chesterfield, a gorgeous green that’s somehow between forest green and avocado. It’s too expensive and the style doesn’t fit our decor and my mostly white husky would destroy it but... damn it’s pretty.

FYI I gave up on the couch search. There might be a big move in our future, maybe in 3-5 yrs, and I decided I’d rather wait till we’ve settled somewhere else.

I am also sofa and comfy chair hunting and it is not something I've enjoyed. Nor something at which I've had success.

Recliners are so ugly yet so comfy. Room and Board has the least ugly one I've seen, but it still ugly and also costs $2600 x2 chairs.

I loooove that green velvet.

My friend has a low profile recliner from room and board. She loves it. She's had it about 8 years. It has a butt indention in it now though.

Room & Board’s Dalton recliner is one of the two greatest pieces of furniture I have ever owned

The problem I have with the more low profile recliners is that I'm really tall and those don't come up high enough to support my shoulders and head when reclined :(

but ended up getting it in a different dark brown leather. I had to order swatches at the time and did a scratch test with my dog's (boxer) paw to make sure I got one that didn't show scratches that well. I love it. It's 8 feet and deep and both me and my 6'3" spouse can lay on it relatively comfortably together.

and it was the Dalton Recliner.

the other one is my old LL Bean Mission Futon which is now basement furniture but has moved with me like 7 times over 17 years and remains phenomenal for naps

I have heard (from some friends) some of those Article sofas are very uncomfortable. I need sofa updates. I think I am going to commit to a green velvet sofa next year when I move.

Turns out we may have to redo a bathroom sooner than we'd like. Where do I go for snazzy, classy, non-ridiculous bathroom design ideas? I feel like a lot of American bathroom design has become bloated and absurd.

Get some contractors to come out first to get measurements and give you a generic estimate, they should hook you up with a local showroom to check out what parts and finishes you want.

Idk what the contractors are like where you are, but contractors do the same thing they always do, with whatever "standard" materials are in demand from other customers + cheap to the contractor. If you want something different, you're going to have to bring that vision yourself.

This is what my parents have found to be true multiple times of trying to build non-standard/historical bathrooms & now a whole house.

Pinterest search "minimalist bathroom" and go nuts.
