Frequently find James Blake’s music boring but his new song is glitchy and chopped up and I love glitchy and chopped up.

^ i did make a fairly useless thread about peggy gou but i have not been able to shake this one track. classic larry heard-ish house business combined with the same sort of lovely breezy pop sensibilities as someone like dip in the pool

That has 33 more tracks than my tracks list! My albums list is just:

Various Artists - Pantsula! The Rise Of Electronic Dance Music In South Africa 1988-1990 [sounds like shangaan x Italo x early house everyone should love this]
Fire! - The Hands [free jazz good times]
Weirdest Dream - White Worms [yr standard analog synth explorations always a treat]

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 11:52 (six years ago) link

We seem to be in a golden age of African music compilations right now. I'll need to give the Pantsula a good listen. I am also really really enjoying the 'Sweet As Broken Dates' comp of Somalian music on Ostinato at the moment.

that Fire! track is nice, like their combination of heavy grooves and free spirits

evol j, Friday, 9 February 2018 18:58 (six years ago) link

Getting really addicted to Mor Mor - Heaven’s Only Wishful
I have a soft spot for songs that are sung continously low key and monotonic until the end where the singer starts sing-shouts. Selena Gomez Bad Liar did this too.

The two Helena Deland singles and the two Amen Dunes singles released so far are great. I think those two + US Girls are pointing out to be my favorite albums in the first quarter of 2018.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 15 February 2018 19:28 (six years ago) link

"Dark Oscillations" by Loma is pretty trippy-- spacious production, choral effects, almost proggy feeling. I think younger Hunt3r would deem this cheesy, but not now. Entire album is beautifully assembled.

Hunt3r, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 17:08 (six years ago) link

That Loma album is great. Recommend you to listen the albums from the bands forming it: Cross Record and Shearwater. The former in particular (wabi sabi) is amazing.

I'm not sure how much anyone cares about French music around here but I really like the new album by this band called Feu! Chatterton. It's kind of hard to describe, it fits the nouvelle chanson française descriptor I guess, sounds a bit Gainsbourg-y in a few places, singer kinda overdoes the romantic/sad Parisian poet thing at times but I don't mind. Here's "Souvenir", give it a shot:

Also enjoying the new Eric Chenaux album which is available to stream over at The Quietus:

They're so primitive, so lo-fi, and yet so stylish and layered and lush.
Not mind blowing, just consistently fine.

re: is there a way I can c/p the tracklist from spotify?

Niels, yes you can do this by following these instructions:

1. First, make your Playlist Public on Spotify.

2. Sign up for a free account on SpotOnTrack (this only takes 10 seconds) - create a new username / password. then verify account via email.
http://www.spotontrack.com
SpotOnTrack uses a Spotify API for Spotify Data.

This site is not affiliated with or part of Spotify.

3. Wait 24? to 48 Hours? for your playlist to be indexed on SpotOnTrack. maybe the API retrieves data sooner?

4. Find your playlist, either by playlist search (this can be very slow as there are currently 3,008,564 playlists, so give your playlist a unique name) or by search for an artist then track that is included on your playlist (pick an obscure artist / track so that you can find your playlist easily)

5. When your playlist has been displayed, highlight the text you need from the bottom upwards with your mouse, right click copy - then use a text editor like Notepad on Windows 10 to paste the text to.

e.g forksclovetofu's 2018 Keepers playlist on Spotify
https://open.spotify.com/user/forksclovetofu/playlist/5F4O9GGhAEY5zYDDakpCuB
has 280 tracks at the mo, 9 followers

on SpotOnTrack
http://www.spotontrack.com/playlists/2681487#tab-tracks
(you need to be logged in to see this)
data is grouped 100 entries / per page

and this is an example of the copy / paste to notepad (i have only included the first track)

data elements:
track title
artist
date added to playlist
BPM
Music Key

Added on
1 All The Stars (with SZA)
SZA, Kendrick Lamar 2018-01-05 BPM 97
Key G#

it's not perfect, so you may need to do some manually reformatting in your text editor / Word Processor e.g Artist - Track

djmartian, Sunday, 25 March 2018 18:13 (six years ago) link

alright, thanks for sharing - a bit more troublesome than I had hoped, but it's always cool to see people are using the API to do stuff like that (recently found another one that lets you automatically follow all artists in your library)

Shout out to a September album release that I just caught up with but was an insta-buy: the latest Tokyo Elvis LP "Nice & Pleasant". As ever with him, the words are mostly sung by a vocaloid software voicebank persona that you'll either love or hate but there's unexpected depths in the writing.
