Is there a good mid-series episode to start with this? I don't feel like starting from the top, just watching 3-4 of the better eps that aren't filled with callbacks.

Seasons 3-5 are pretty peak and most any random ep will be a fine place to begin.

I didn't like S01E01 at all. Now I think it's one of the best comedies ever

My go-to entry point recommendation is The Gang Dances Their Asses Off

Of what I've seen (and I'm behind at this point, I don't watch a lot of TV anymore) there's very few episodes I really don't care for. And I like the character of Carmen, Mac's trans girlfriend, but I do wish she weren't played by a cis actress and they weren't throwing the t-slur around (though certainly the characters probably would). Anyway this show is very good.

Picking one, I'd say go for The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis.

yeah that one captures the character dynamics really well. the gang gets invincible is also a nice gateway to fall into the rhythms of the series.

There were one or two the last season that really rubbed me the wrong way, but hey, if it took 12 solid seasons to get there, I'll accept one or two I didn't like.

Boat ep is def a classic

I liked the S13 premiere!

I think the show was really good out of the box. I happened to catch the 2nd episode when it was on new "Charlie Wants an Abortion" and the conclusion of that one is pretty hilarious and clever.

I dont think the show really gelled until frank arrived

The premiere only had one joke, but tbf “Dennis sex doll” was a really fucking good joke

The best thing to do now is a throwaway joke more than halfway into the season where its revealed that Dennis has the doll and has been having sex with himself all the time. Such an obviously funny thing to do and I'm sorry if I spoiled a really good joke before it happens.

The Waitress is Getting Married is a good starter episode. Or The Gang Give Frank an Intervention. Season 5 is probably the best one.
