is there a link for that saer track? I actually meant to go back and sort those out; I loved watching that drive through the rain video after returning from a trip to the peak district in June

bloody contemporary stuff

lmao

rob, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:16 (six years ago) link

I've liked a lot of stuff all three days of the poll, maybe the most stuff I've vibed with ever

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:17 (six years ago) link

thanks LBI! it was "back in time for tea" I was talking about earlier--this is nice too

rob, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:18 (six years ago) link

'back in time for tea' too is brilliant

Would be surprised if Cut To The Feeling missed out on the 77 altogether so perhaps that is still to come.

And more than five ilxors voted for Boys too surely?

groovypanda, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:20 (six years ago) link

no way in hell does CRJ not make it

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:22 (six years ago) link

Selena Gomez probably?

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:42 (six years ago) link

Is Raingurl really not going to place?

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:44 (six years ago) link

It very well might!

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:47 (six years ago) link

Oh, I forgot to say, high fives to etc, the other one with the right #1

Prob my most played track in the car this year. Love it with my all.

♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:57 (six years ago) link

Kara-Lis Coverdale is becoming a fave already, although, oof, 5 GBP for one 22m track is as much as her 2015 full-length costs.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:59 (six years ago) link

Drink I'm Sippin On is a jam. The kind of song that makes you want to have more of the same thing right away.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 20:59 (six years ago) link

Hoping a saer track does make it if only to see his thoughts on it

groovypanda, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:00 (six years ago) link

Green Light was my #1. To me it's a perfect pop song: infinitely replay-able and always carthatic in ways I can't describe.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:04 (six years ago) link

I'm guessing that New Rules will be #1 but honestly there could be ten other possible winners. It's not like last year where it was obviously gonna be Black Beatles

josh az (2011nostalgia), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:09 (six years ago) link

And if the pet shop boys were able to make the top 20 last year who knows what'll show up.

josh az (2011nostalgia), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:10 (six years ago) link

hey Sund4r, these are the sleeve notes from the back of the KLC record. i've read them about 8 times and I still have no idea what the heck it all means, but you might find it informative(?)

Predictions for top 20:

Bicep - Glue
saer - ::_::
Julien Baker (Appointments)
XCX
Kendrick
Slowdive - Sugar for the Pill
Lindström/J Hval

Probabaly not?
Aldous Harding - Imagining My Man
Superpitcher: vote split victim?

― ♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre)

These ones will surely make it:

BODAK YELLOW
MASK OFF

Maybe these?

Fever Ray
Calvin Harris
Lana del Rey
Selena Gomez
Thundercat

Weird year for consensus... many split votes. First year in which I have no idea which ones will make it to the top 20. Thought XO would be top 20.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:12 (six years ago) link

this has to be the year with the most non-english tracks. which is pretty great.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:14 (six years ago) link

totally forgot about Bodak. of course it'll make it

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:14 (six years ago) link

There's probably a Kelly Lee Owens song lurking in there as well.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:17 (six years ago) link

I'm thinking one of Vince Staple's makes it.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:18 (six years ago) link

Future released so many better tracks than Mask Off this year. I mean, Patek for a start but also Fresh Air, I'm So Groovy, Comin Out Strong all great but I guess Mask Off was the hit

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:18 (six years ago) link

I voted for Patek but somehow doubt it showing up?

♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:21 (six years ago) link

Thanks, NickB. I did just shell out for the WAV (which is sounding great so far, although I'll probably compressed it to at least ALAC) but it didn't come with those notes. On first glance, I wouldn't say it's written with the utmost clarity but I'll try to explain what I understand in a bit.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:22 (six years ago) link

i thought about it and sorta figured out what's gonna be in the top twenty (i mean it's possible sza won't place twice so there's room for error) but regardless i have no idea what order it'll shake out in. not really a clear no. 1 in the bunch (well, i mean, except for cardi, but who knows what'll happen there). kendrick ("dna" over "humble" imo)? paramore? kesha? lmao sun-el musician??

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:25 (six years ago) link

I doubt Mask Off will make the cut when XO Tour Llif3 has already placed.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:31 (six years ago) link

Mask Off will make it trust me.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:44 (six years ago) link

Even I voted for it.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 21:45 (six years ago) link

I would have hoped Incredible might have slipped in as well, but probably not top 20.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:22 (six years ago) link

Trying my best to get caught up on this list. A lot of pleasant stuff and some really bad stuff, but the first track that has really captured my attention and got me interested to dig further is the Richard Dawson one. Is the long-awaited Freak Folk revival finally happening? Does the rest of the album measure up.

Moodles, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:28 (six years ago) link

keep thinking that Richard Dawson is the guy who wrote The God Delusion

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:34 (six years ago) link

I guess "Boys" will be in the top 20 but imo it's not even in the top 20 of the thirtysomething songs Charli XCX appeared on last year

monotony, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:38 (six years ago) link

^this

daavid, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:40 (six years ago) link

and xps to Brad I can't really figure out a #1 either. I'd personally be surprised if it was "Bodak Yellow". "DNA" seems like the safest bet but Kendrick is also the kind of artist who would likely suffer most from vote-splitting.

monotony, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:41 (six years ago) link

I would have totally voted for 'Mask Off' had I cast a ballot.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:41 (six years ago) link

I'd say "Boys" was significantly lifted by its video, but I recently learned that no one watches those

I'd add cultural impact as a factor - though this is hard to disentangle from the video. I saw "I was busy thinkin' 'bout boys" (or a snippet of that from the song) being deployed online as a lolronic self-descriptor much more than I actually heard the song in the wild last year.

Tim F, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:47 (six years ago) link

I think Mask Off might win by virtue of being #8-15 on 35 different ballots and no one's #1.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:51 (six years ago) link

^yes, but also, given the something like 6 'best song of the year' votes on that Bodak Yellow poll...

Dan S, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:54 (six years ago) link

But is cultural impact usually taken into account for ILM voting?

MarkoP, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:54 (six years ago) link

Does the rest of the album measure up.

you shall find out next week!

(yes)

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:54 (six years ago) link

xp
I can buy that. I only watched it once, but the video definitely felt like an *event*
If it had come out back when tumblr was thriving, it would have been seismic on there

― rob, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 22:42 (three minutes ago)

^^ Didn't vote for it, but considered throwing something the way of the Mandarin-language Howie Lee remix.

etc, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 23:04 (six years ago) link

I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring and guess for Cut To The Feeling at number one. ILM loves Carly and that's a really great song, although it feels like it came out a long time ago now

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 23:13 (six years ago) link

The Chromeo remix salvaged "Green Light" for me, which was unbearably omnipresent in New Zealand

It was "bearably" omnipresent across the ditch, I'd say, though as #2 on my ballot I don't think it's the sort of thing that would ever have become unbearable to me. I like the airiness of the Chromeo remix and am also partial to a trashy one made by someone called "Riddler", which seems to come on every time I go to the gym and then unexpectedly popped up very briefly in a recent episode of The Good Place.

monotony, Thursday, 25 January 2018 00:19 (six years ago) link

CRJ #1 is my guess as well
