Yeah I had a lot of things to say about Palette in the even of it placing but I've given up so I put it on my notepad for me to post after the list is over.

feel like "feel it coming" missed its moment last year

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:08 (six years ago) link

especially the "i'm waiting for it" vocals

I'm waiting for it! That green light! I want it!

Some people toss around Kate Bush comparisons liberally and ad nauseam, but that part is very Kate Bushy to me.

Sweet, was getting nervous about "Akrakabo" (I'm the other #1 voter) - IIRC Francophone/coupé-décalé stuff hasn't done as well here c/f Anglophone/Lusophone stuff. The album's great if a little exhausting, but the moment the guitar emerges (as everyone else has mentioned) was 2017's sublimest musical moment.

Yaeji & Mondo Grosso videos complement each other, sort've!

Enjoying "Grafts", though just realised I'd meant to vote for Sarah Davachi but forgot.

The Chromeo remix salvaged "Green Light" for me, which was unbearably omnipresent in New Zealand - the inverse of our tall poppy syndrome is eternal slavish devotion to anything/anyone that succeeds overseas. Big ups the Ron Gallipoli cover at the NZ Silver Scroll awards.

xp to Brad - Yeah feels like that ones been around forever now. It's one of the few ones I really don't mind that get regular play on the work radio

>:( at u brad

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:11 (six years ago) link

T Shirt will have to place although I vastly prefer Call Casting from the Migos album

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:11 (six years ago) link

pretty much all of those are certain except tove and midland (no way did midland make it) xp to simon

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:12 (six years ago) link

i fear that 2 is my lot as far as my votes placing will be, despite my breathless enthusiasm for a certain Re-TROS song

#TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:13 (six years ago) link

t-shirt in 1st place

gr8080, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:13 (six years ago) link

Midland as in Final Credit right? its good but there's been so much better bobbins so far. Good year for bobbins, especially nerdy girl bobbins :-)

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:13 (six years ago) link

i voted for strike a match but i doubt it'll place at this point & j hus is probably a victim of vote splitting

likely to show but not yet mentioned:
charli xcx
dua lipa
slowdive
cardi b
kesha
maybe fever ray or stormzy? idk

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:14 (six years ago) link

Midland as in Final Credit right?

no as in "drinkin problem" (i assume)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:15 (six years ago) link

yup

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:16 (six years ago) link

haha whoa what is this? totally different Midland loooool

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:16 (six years ago) link

oh right, Cardi B, Dua Lipa and Kesha for sure. Stormzy (and Wiley?), maybe.

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:17 (six years ago) link

I was hoping one of the Tove Styrke singles would make it. Doesn't seem likely now.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:17 (six years ago) link

i like that yaeji tune

marcos, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:18 (six years ago) link

i loved mistakes but she probably got vote split

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:19 (six years ago) link

fwiw I thought you meant this bit of mershy house music https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dVExpCA_H3A which it appears came out in 2016 but I heard out and about a lot this summer

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:19 (six years ago) link

Looks bleak for any dancehall or soca noms - guess artists like Shenseea or Bunji Garlin having strong years contributed to vote-splitting etc :/

etc, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:19 (six years ago) link

4 of my 25 have placed, not expecting my #1 to place now. Of the others on my list the only ones I think may place are Tove Lo and The Black Madonna.

Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:19 (six years ago) link

ooh yeah Black Madonna almost certainly I would think

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:20 (six years ago) link

I'm expecting something by Julien Baker to show up, but that might end up only doing well in the albums poll.

bicep's glue could still show up

Dan S, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:21 (six years ago) link

can't imagine it won't

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:21 (six years ago) link

at least 4 of mine have placed, possibly more. can't complain.

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:21 (six years ago) link

i have learned that lorde is not for me

marcos, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:22 (six years ago) link

Big For Your Boots by Stormzy is definitely placing in the top 20, maybe top 10 given he had no other songs nominated when I last looked.

Given the amount of bobbins in the list already then The Black Madonna's He Is The Voice That I Hear is in with a shout.

Reserve at least one place for whatever Carly Rae Jepsen released last year, because this is ILM. I'd guess Lemon by NERD/Rihanna and at least one Fever Ray as well.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:22 (six years ago) link

I imagine Julien Baker got badly vote split, she had so many noms (I voted for "Funeral Pyre")

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:22 (six years ago) link

There's also a song I kind of expect to place that will likely be met with a lot of groans and comments about the album being disappointing and ILM voting on autopilot.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:23 (six years ago) link

I think we have a very solid idea of the top 20 between the last few posts, hoping we all lose our minds tomorrow tho

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:23 (six years ago) link

can't imagine Lemon will place

i guess it's not impossible that another xx song shows up now but idk if there's room for it

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:24 (six years ago) link

Yeah I think there'll be an obligatory Lindstrom as well.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:24 (six years ago) link

so i'm hardly surprised not to see any eminem but is no one repping Jay-Z any more?

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:24 (six years ago) link

the album will place for sure

Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:25 (six years ago) link

I don't think anyone really liked the Lindstrom this year?

ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:25 (six years ago) link

I'd be gutted if no soca placed. don't have my list with me but I'm sure I voted for Take Ah Bathe. Won't place though. Been such a great year for Caribbean music in general but maybe no clear standouts

Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:25 (six years ago) link

lol 5 of my votes placed today. welcome to the hivemind, me.

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:25 (six years ago) link

― ufo,

Yeah, the Lindstrom album was really disappointing.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:26 (six years ago) link

ahhhhhh i forgot to vote for Take Ah Bathe, my bad

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:26 (six years ago) link

is no one repping Jay-Z any more?

ILM doesn't use Tidal.

Well except for that one guy who shows up in the Spotify thread to complain.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:26 (six years ago) link

agh, that was not meant to post the youtube, apologies

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:27 (six years ago) link
