Incredible song. The way it builds towards the end is breathtaking.
― kitchen person, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:24 (six years ago) link
there were a few other songs i liked more on the album but it's still quite good.
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:25 (six years ago) link
just another day on earth where i listened to "undercover" and cried lol
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:26 (six years ago) link
she nails it every time live too
yeah this was something to behold
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:26 (six years ago) link
some days i feel like i'm in bizarro world; pretty sure this isn't even in my top three songs released in 2017 named "Undercover"
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:27 (six years ago) link
tbh, this might not be the highest-placing "undercover" on this poll
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:27 (six years ago) link
it almost certainly isn't, and I voted for both!
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:28 (six years ago) link
the final minute is mind-blowing.
Yep. Coming off Ten Love Songs, I was all "eh, so we're doing this now?" and THEN I got to the end of this.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:30 (six years ago) link
didn't get into the album unfortunately but love this track
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:30 (six years ago) link
yeh the final 2 mins spook me in a good way
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:31 (six years ago) link
I admit I don’t really get Sundfor but I see she has a heavy following on ILM.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:31 (six years ago) link
back to back "Undercover"s would be amazing but the Kehlani one was my most played track of 2017 so I'd like to see it as high as possible
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:32 (six years ago) link
i was VERY slow to warm to Kehlani's "Undercover" but I rediscovered it in November and it's been on heavy repeat since and i think i'm going to play it again now
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:33 (six years ago) link
Undercover is beautiful. That's all.
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:35 (six years ago) link
Undercover is great and when I heard her doing it live it reached new heights for me. Best voice.

Just now checking out the J Hus album. Title track is so my thing.

Yaeji killed this rollout dead it seems.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:53 (six years ago) link
i don't really get the yaeji hype or this track but raingurl was decent

Raingurl definitely better
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 18:58 (six years ago) link
this Octo Octa track is nice and I definitely prefer the more subdued origin than the compressathon of the remix

God, even I like XO Tour Llif3 and I'm usually bored shitless by stuff like this.

i still want “palette” to place but uh it’s looking unlikely
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:02 (six years ago) link
I think I had to leave "Drink I'm Sippin On" off my ballot at the last minute, but I'm glad it placed.
― daavid, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:02 (six years ago) link
I've been quite enjoying a bit of trap in the last couple of years but for whatever reason had only given the Uzi Vert track a cursory listen. It's okay but a little generic compared to some of the stuff the usual suspects (yeah Migos and Thug and Future) brought out this year. Does its job and goes. Maybe needs to sink in a bit more
― Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:02 (six years ago) link
much prefer raingurl as well
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:03 (six years ago) link
doglatin, i would bet XO will grow on you with time; it sure did for me
I actually heard the Lil Uzi Vert track out in the wild around my neighborhood. That's basically how I keep up with what's popular in mainstream rap...people driving by with the windows down.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:04 (six years ago) link
love raingurl too!
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:05 (six years ago) link
Apparently I haven't been keeping up with Canadian music? I'm rather liking the Alvvays song too. It's a little heartwarming that music like this is still being made.
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:06 (six years ago) link
90s guitar indie is making a rather sizeable comeback, both of the jangle variety and the crunch distortion variety.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:07 (six years ago) link
voted for green light, it took me a little while but i really love it, definitely her best track. whole chorus is great especially the "i'm waiting for it" vocals
as a non-trap fan, xo tour llif3 is much more immediate to me than most is
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:07 (six years ago) link
some predictions/hopefuls for the top 20:
Patek Water (hoping) Mask Off (likely) Self Esteem - Your Wife (hoping) Living In The City (if only cos I whacked it at the top of the summer jams thread so) Give Me A Reason (hoping) Strike A Match (but more likely Sacred Paws will be in the albums poll) I Feel It Coming (Likely? is this well liked by ILM?) Bagbak (maybe?) Common Sense (not a hit and maybe a bit blood sausage)
― Badgers (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:07 (six years ago) link
Yeah I had a lot of things to say about Palette in the even of it placing but I've given up so I put it on my notepad for me to post after the list is over.
― abcfsk, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:08 (six years ago) link
feel like "feel it coming" missed its moment last year
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:08 (six years ago) link
especially the "i'm waiting for it" vocals
I'm waiting for it! That green light! I want it!
Some people toss around Kate Bush comparisons liberally and ad nauseam, but that part is very Kate Bushy to me.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 19:09 (six years ago) link
Sweet, was getting nervous about "Akrakabo" (I'm the other #1 voter) - IIRC Francophone/coupé-décalé stuff hasn't done as well here c/f Anglophone/Lusophone stuff. The album's great if a little exhausting, but the moment the guitar emerges (as everyone else has mentioned) was 2017's sublimest musical moment.
Yaeji & Mondo Grosso videos complement each other, sort've!
Enjoying "Grafts", though just realised I'd meant to vote for Sarah Davachi but forgot.
The Chromeo remix salvaged "Green Light" for me, which was unbearably omnipresent in New Zealand - the inverse of our tall poppy syndrome is eternal slavish devotion to anything/anyone that succeeds overseas. Big ups the Ron Gallipoli cover at the NZ Silver Scroll awards.
