the lift from "Wish Fulfillment" is pretty damn brazen though I must say (xxp!)
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:23 (six years ago) link
i think i voted for this in 2015. the 9 minute 'last dance night of the club edit' which seems to have been scrubbed from existence was fantastic i remember
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:23 (six years ago) link
oh that's "last dance of the night club edit" lol
Great this made it.

Oh Baby is one of the songs I listened to the most in 2017, might be the best SONG James Murphy has ever written. Especially the great ending where the drums finally kick into the next gear, and then it only lasts a few seconds, and then he stumbles on. Murphy will never be as important as he was ten-fifteen years ago, but I think he became a better songwriter in his retirement. I'll take something like Yeah! over it any day of the week, but Oh Baby is great in a different way.

Somebody's gotta explain this one to me.

it's the best song of the year, p simple
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:33 (six years ago) link
2 #1s, woah
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:34 (six years ago) link
loved the album but "soldier" was my fave jam from it
― Well bissogled trotters (Michael B), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:35 (six years ago) link
this should be a fun listen for the bobbins cru
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:35 (six years ago) link
yeh i went back to 'ogre' more than i did the album tbh, great song love the ending
― nxd, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:36 (six years ago) link
Second thing to place from my ballot
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:37 (six years ago) link
Voted for the other Dawson nom but yeah this rules
― devvvine, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:37 (six years ago) link
full disclosure: the two #1s were me and tt
kind of expected it to be higher, guess we'll have to wait for the albums poll for that though
after a first half of glimmering and beautiful melody, the second half feels like i'm participating in some ancient pagan ritual as the whole world spins beyond my consciousness. it's too much almost
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:37 (six years ago) link
I would much prefer game show host Richard Dawson (r.i.p.) singing the best of Skinny Puppy to this audio travesty.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:38 (six years ago) link
voted for the album but that was the highlight from it, great track and what a climax
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:38 (six years ago) link
Great song. Ogre and Soldier are the twin... erm high points of the album for sure but I gave my vote to the LP.
― Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:38 (six years ago) link
also it's a brexit anthem, done classily: the townsfolk blame an ogre for their troubles and pursue it madly, ritualistically...but it is not there...
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:39 (six years ago) link
Voted for the lp, but could easily have voted for Ogre as well.
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:40 (six years ago) link
I'd have probably voted for it if I'd had more slots
― Simon H., Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:41 (six years ago) link
Hang on, I'm thinking of Beggar rather than Soldier.

yay, just missed out on my ballot, fav kpop tune of last year behind blackpink

Ogre!

love dawson's guitar playing first & foremost and there are some glorious turnarounds on ogre
― ogmor, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:47 (six years ago) link
Will admit that I sometimes wish he were (or employed) a better singer. I like the tunes, the playing, the ideas, the feel, though.
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:51 (six years ago) link
love red flavor & had it very high, it's pure excitement and the percussion is fantastic.
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:53 (six years ago) link
no idea what's with the 'interviewing fruits' mv concept though.
i don't expect any more kpop to place at this point but 4 tracks is a great showing
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:55 (six years ago) link
Ogre was #5 for me. Should be a hit!
― cajunsunday, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:55 (six years ago) link
so tasty!

I thought Richard Dawson was unlistenable shite the first time I heard him. The video for "The Vile Stuff" helped me cross that line. Voted for "Soldier", but this is a close second favourite.
― mike t-diva, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:56 (six years ago) link
I would reverse the order of all K-Pop entries so far. "Likey" is clearly the best, "Red Flavor" the worst.

Enjoyed the Destroyer song, although it suffers from being right next to the Kamasi Washington.
― No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:06 (six years ago) link
wtf is that "Ogre" song? :/
It's like somebody hacked my brain and then combined everything that I find annoying into one song.
― daavid, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:07 (six years ago) link
I thought Richard Dawson was unlistenable shite the first time I heard him.
still at this stage, perhaps forever who knows
― nashwan, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:07 (six years ago) link
magnolia is ok but i like wokeuplikethis* way more & voted for it, idk if itll show up though
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:09 (six years ago) link
Probs won't place but I preferred and voted Location, which barely feigns interest in being a rap song
― devvvine, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:10 (six years ago) link
too low

this situation is becoming increasingly antagonised & i can no longer promise to be on my best behaviour
playboi carti seems goofy rather than malevolent tho, and the production's decent
― #TeamHailing (imago), Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:13 (six years ago) link
Location is excellent too
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:13 (six years ago) link
Richard Dawson's one of these folks I like the idea of in theory, but the reality is such a chore.
― Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:14 (six years ago) link
my first vote to place. my little brother has been finding his own taste lately and playboi carti is something we agree on. watching his enthusiasm as he drunkenly danced around the kitchen rapping along to this was a v charming 2017 moment
― ogmor, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:16 (six years ago) link
I didn't have a Dawsony year last year so no votes from me, but figured the LJ team would make the album do well - glad to see a track place as well.
I find Red Velvet a bit too normal and cloying for my tastes, but then I think I've got it in my head that "I don't like Red Velvet" because I hated 'Ice Cream Cake'. I'd probably dance to this out, tbh.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 14:18 (six years ago) link
think I preferred Ice Cream Cake to this :/
