Please vote!

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Friday, 19 January 2018 10:58 (six years ago) link

I feel like a Wyoming voter in this thing. Vote if for no other reason than to stop me from having so much influence!

beard papa, Saturday, 20 January 2018 03:24 (six years ago) link

This is a total false pick but the Sundays & Cybele album Chaos & Systems is totally tremendous J-psych. The last track here, "Paradise Come" brings to mind a more paisley Acid Mothers Temple:

I thought Imago & TT would have been campaigning/liveblogging albums by now

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 14:09 (six years ago) link

Soon...

#TeamHailing (imago), Saturday, 20 January 2018 15:59 (six years ago) link

Saints alive, "Yarinareth, Yarinareth, Yarinareth" is such a motherfucker.

There's always one song on every new JG album that's just reaches and grabs me and convinces me that it's best thing guy has ever done, and this time YYY is absolutely the winner

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 20 January 2018 16:21 (six years ago) link

I VOTED

you can make fun of birthday parties all you want (ultros ultros-ghali), Saturday, 20 January 2018 17:11 (six years ago) link

YYY isn't my favourite track on the album (it's...third?) but the way it dissolves at the end is some insane audio magic

#TeamHailing (imago), Saturday, 20 January 2018 17:19 (six years ago) link

Not voting but just wanted to pop in and thank Siegbran for bringing Lingua Ignota to my attention a little while ago. Loved that record so much I wrote it in for the main poll.

emil.y, Saturday, 20 January 2018 19:56 (six years ago) link

you are allowed to vote for just one album

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:34 (six years ago) link

talking about the big poll, I wonder what/if any metal will make the 77?
I seem to remember a previous metal poll winner not making the 77 yet lower down albums did.

Will a lack of metal poll being up first hurt chances of enough consensus to make main poll?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:38 (six years ago) link

I've always thought when it comes to main poll that everyone's already voted for metal so leave it out in main poll.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:39 (six years ago) link

i voted for 8 (arguably 9) metal albums in the main poll. the one i voted lowest is the only one of those i half-expect to show up though

#TeamHailing (imago), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:39 (six years ago) link

the electric wizard album wasn't nommed in main poll and they usually showed up in the 77 i think? Converge maybe has the best chance

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:46 (six years ago) link

would be weird if the electric wizard did badly in polls after how the older fans felt it was a return to form after the last few*

*the last few were awesome and those fans wrong

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:47 (six years ago) link

oh Chelsea Wolfe will make the 77. Will be very disappointed if it doesn't go top 10 tbh

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:50 (six years ago) link

I haven't campaigned for it here as I just assumed everyone will vote for it but if you haven't heard the Chelsea Wolfe album then please do. It's terrific. I always play it back to back with the Myrkur.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:51 (six years ago) link

voted for 7 metal albums in the main poll but I don't expect any of them to make the list

Dinsdale, Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:55 (six years ago) link

At least half my big poll is *metal*

the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 21 January 2018 00:13 (six years ago) link

I usually leave out the metal.

Siegbran, Sunday, 21 January 2018 12:33 (six years ago) link

aye, in your metal poll :P

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Sunday, 21 January 2018 15:10 (six years ago) link

dungeon synth is metal too, k3rr, did you not get the memo?

listened to the Colotyphus opening track earlier - it was pretty good! will listen to some more later.

#TeamHailing (imago), Sunday, 21 January 2018 15:17 (six years ago) link

Six metal albums on my 77 albums ballot.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Sunday, 21 January 2018 15:51 (six years ago) link

hey, haven't been around in awhile but I will definitely put a ballot in for this poll!

Frobisher, Sunday, 21 January 2018 20:51 (six years ago) link

i wondered where you were

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Sunday, 21 January 2018 23:29 (six years ago) link

I put three metal albums on my 77 ballot.

ArchCarrier, Monday, 22 January 2018 08:42 (six years ago) link

Voted!

Simon H., Monday, 22 January 2018 13:02 (six years ago) link

i asked seandalai if voting was in double figures yet.

no reply still

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Monday, 22 January 2018 18:39 (six years ago) link

There seems to be much less campaigning going on than past years was everyone just unenthusiastic about metal in 2017?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 21:34 (six years ago) link

Can't speak for others but I was enthusiastic! I just suck at campaigning. Still, my favorite metal albums this year that no one else seemed to care about, and actually my favorite metal albums period, were Entheos - Le Zahir which is free/name-your-price on bandcamp, and Anakim - Monuments to Departed Worlds which I didn't nominate because I heard it after the deadline. The former are from Quebec and make atmospheric, *cough* post *cough* black metal which manages to not be boring, the latter are a technical death metal band from UK and the album is just fucking great.

Ex Eye's selft-titled was great too but I don't think it needs campaigning.

Another one I loved this year is Der Weg Einer Freiheit - Finisterre.

Dinsdale, Thursday, 25 January 2018 21:53 (six years ago) link

tbh I think everything needs campaigning. I think we are wrong to assume everyones heard what you think are the major releases.

I don't even know if everyone who liked Agalloch have even heard Pillorian.

I'll say one thing though - the rolling metal thread last year was really quiet and it felt like the core group of posters on it was small.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 21:56 (six years ago) link

oh and dinsdale simon could add that album for you. With (i hope) 90% of ballots still to be cast, there is a very real chance voters will give it a listen and vote for it.

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 21:59 (six years ago) link

I've also just purchased it to give it a listen. Campaigning works!

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 22:01 (six years ago) link

oh wait i purchased the Entheos. I think you nommed that?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 22:03 (six years ago) link

yeah I nominated that one

I forgot to mention Cavernlight - As We Cup Our Hands And Drink From The Stream of Our Ache... I don't know if that one was talked about in the rolling thread but it was my favorite doom release this year.

Dinsdale, Thursday, 25 January 2018 22:17 (six years ago) link

I'm sure Simon will add them to the noms

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 22:18 (six years ago) link

Cavernlight was nominated, I meant I had forgotten about it in my lame attempt at campaigning :)

Dinsdale, Thursday, 25 January 2018 22:24 (six years ago) link

well since hardly anyone's voted its still a good time to campaign!

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 25 January 2018 22:31 (six years ago) link

Not sure how much good it will do, but I'd be happy to campaign for these wonderful albums (strangely, many of my favorites, or at least the low-profile ones, came out on Invictus this year):

Apostate Viaticum - Before the Gates of Gomorrah - Raw and weird death metal, maybe for Howls of Ebb fans.
http://invictusproductions666.bandcamp.com/album/before-the-gates-of-gomorrah

Antiversum - Cosmos Comedenti - Cavernous, atmospheric doomy death.
http://invictusproductions666.bandcamp.com/album/cosmos-comedenti

Malokarpatan - Nordkarpatenland - A Slovakian black metal/hard rock concept album, maybe for Hail Spirit Noir fans.
http://invictusproductions666.bandcamp.com/album/nordkarpatenland

Undergang - Misantropologi - Awesome dank and guttural old-school death, maybe for Convulse fans.
http://undergang.bandcamp.com/album/misantropologi

I would also mention Power Trip and Immolation, but I'm assuming everyone knows them already.

o. nate, Friday, 26 January 2018 01:56 (six years ago) link

dinsdale, I added the Anakim album!

nate, Malokarpapatan have my vote :)

Simon H., Friday, 26 January 2018 02:23 (six years ago) link

Nice. My campaign is working already.

o. nate, Friday, 26 January 2018 03:40 (six years ago) link

Bummed I didn't nominate some stuff - loved - Resurgency - No Worlds... Nor Gods Beyond , Bufihimat - I , Droid - Terrestrial Mutations, Slow - V - Oceans , Sutrah - Dunes , Madrost - The Essence of Time Matches No Flesh , Toxic Shock - TWENTYLASTCENTURY - but, alas, they weren't listed.

BlackIronPrison, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:45 (six years ago) link

If you'd brought it up sooner I could have added them!

Simon H., Friday, 26 January 2018 16:47 (six years ago) link

We're gonna go back to doing this before the main poll next year right? Good good

imago, Friday, 26 January 2018 16:48 (six years ago) link

I guess metal is never truly an anticlimax though
