Surprised there isn't already a thread for her. First heard of her in late 2016 when someone recommended Sleep Has His House, said it was the best book they'd read in a long time. Got that and Ice for a friend last Xmas, she loved them, but I hadn't read any of her work before last week when I got Julia and the Bazooka, which is just leveling me right now.

picked up a copy of julia and the bazooka recently as well & looking forward to checking it out... the short stories of hers i've read have been excellent. sleep has his house is quite a disjointed reading experience, took me a second go-through to appreciate it. wish i could find my copy of this which vanished before i got around to finishing it :-/

Sleep Has His House is absolutely fantastic. The first one of hers I read was The Parson, which is... good, but very much of a realist style, so I probably wouldn't recommend it unless you want to be completist. I really really need to read some more.

not sure if i've read the 'nz: answer to an inquiry' piece, but have read the riposte it got in landfall (nz lit mag) soon after... which from memory wasn't entirely unsympathetic to her conclusions.

So happy to see this thread, had no idea it existed. I’m a big fan (I spent I don’t know how much money on editions of A Bright Green Field and Eagle’s Nest) and looking forward to getting that collection.
