this is a great post

When I was 18 I uncovered a little-known voter fraud loophole and voted twice. While university students were accounted for, one thing HM Gov hadn't borne in mind was boarding school pupils. I turned 18 a few months before the 2005 GE but was still in residence at Westminster for the election; I received voting cards both there and at home. So, during the day, I travelled back to the safe Labour seat of Lewisham East and showed my scorn for that warmonger Blair by voting Lib Dem (except instead of an X in the box I drew a little hand with its finger upraised, so grandly did I cherish my uniqueness). Come evening, I returned to the safe Tory seat of Westminster and having already cast my 'real' vote, put my X beside the Veritas candidate - yes, the hard-right party led by Kilroy - for what are nowadays termed 'the lulz'. I believe the clincher was the candidate's address, at a location known as Little Britain.

A year later I joined ILX, and continued to demonstrate excellent qualities therein.

Choose Your Own Coronavirus Adventure

Your friend Sam says it would be a great idea to come to the little house party they're throwing tonight. You aren't sure. "Don't they say we should stay inside?" you ask. Sam is adamant. "You don't want to miss this."

If you go to the party turn to page 34. Otherwise go to page 52.

p. 34

That’s what your mind is telling itself, anyway, as the last cells of your cerebral cortex burst in starburst waves, like the glowing algae in a midnight lagoon. In the isolation ward, your EKG goes to a steady tone. The doctors take away the ventilator and give it to a patient who arrived this morning. In the official records of the COVID-19 pandemic, you’ll be recorded as victim No. 592.

The End

yeah. I know. but by this standard generations blend imperceptibly more often than not, and the standard labels promoted by marketers and feature writers confuse matters more than they illuminate.

the boomers started at a great dividing point, where WWII had kept young men and women physically apart and children very few, then suddenly the men came back and mating exploded almost instantly. but that sharply defined beginning point gives a false sense of unity to the boomers, because no one can say when that generation really ended or the next began.

This one's confusing me because I'm not sure what it's supposed to be indicative of? esby's contempt for 'indie', a musical genre favoured by ILXors? Or esby parodying the kneejerk contempt of ILXors for 'indie', a musical genre favoured by esby? Having heard esby's own music, I can only assume it's the latter.

― Future England Captain (Tom D.), Tuesday, June 30, 2020 7:14 AM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink
