four years pass...

I picked up on the band much later than I could have done. Wonder if I was exposed to them much in my teens. Do remember seeing a copy of i think If I could Do It Again in a record shop opposite Liverpool station sometime in the 80s , think it is in a space that I would tend to walk to if trying to get to Rough Trade East over teh last couple of decades anyway. & I think I may have seen a review of teh band in Strange Thiings Are Happening.
Listening to Land of Grey & Pink over teh alst few days and thinking that it and the other couple of records by taht lineup are pretty dashed lush. Just not sure how well respected they were in postpunk/alternative circles in teh 80s or on the Psychedelic Revival scene.
Loving the moddish grooves on the instrumental passages of the bonus material on the cd. Not sure to what extent that shows on the original lp material or if it would have been clear enough at teh time. But hearing that people were picking up on Gentle Giant for mod discos over teh last couple of decades I do wonder on other crossovers of similar era material.
I think I was aware of Soft Machine who did get a reissue of their first lp in the period I am thinking of on somebody like Edsel and wondering if it was an oversight of mine that I missed the first run of this band or what was and wasn't thought to be cool.

Oh well do have it now, would like more of it. Wish my copy of the first lp wasn't mono then stereo cos it means needing to listen to it twice in a row on my 3changer. Gosh what trying times. & do know that Hux had a Radio sessions set out that I meant to grab and never did.
THat mellatron keyboard sound or whatever that is is pretty great. Squeezed sounding keyboard passages.
I think I was initially finding the vocal style a bit of an acquired taste but i think I have acquired it. Combination of the 2 can tend to a bit of a melancholy feel but i think it might be part of the nessness of the band anyway. ontology?
