i went to stink last week. DJ Koze played quite deep minimalism and r'n'b for a bit, Lazarus played his usual selection of whatevers hot this week. Didn't do much dancing, as my snogging partner was present- but it was really good.

Is anyone going to t-bar tonight? Ivan Smagghe and Andrew Weatherall

Barnaby (Barnaby), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:59 (eighteen years ago) link

My plan is to go to Big Sexy Land and then maybe Tiga as well.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 16 February 2006 13:02 (eighteen years ago) link

what's Big Sexy Land?

Barnaby (Barnaby), Thursday, 16 February 2006 13:08 (eighteen years ago) link

can't make smagghe/weatherall, although i'll be interested to hear reports back from anyone who does...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 16 February 2006 13:52 (eighteen years ago) link

i know this is more a dance music thread, but im down for essentials then straight outta bethnal tomorrow... if anyone wants the grime.

i want to come down for cosmic sandwich (gareth - tom is planning to go) but think it clashes with a night we are putting on, possibly.

other key dates (good pun huh) - triple r/riley at sud electronic 31/3, jeff samuel at the key 13/04. should be down for both of those i reckon.

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 16 February 2006 13:56 (eighteen years ago) link

oops ofrgot to say alex under is playing with riley at that night

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 16 February 2006 13:56 (eighteen years ago) link

yay someone wants to go to the grime!!! ambrose, i will email you.

i was going to do weatherall/smagghe but feel like utter shit today - haven't had a quiet night in since last thursday.

on saturday my vague plan is to go to big sexy land, and then on to tiga, this will depend on a lot of things inc organisation. matt, are you and yours coming along to tiga afterwards?

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 19 February 2006 04:43 (eighteen years ago) link

jeez, fabric on the 4th of march looks quite good:

Craig Richards
PERLON:
Ricardo Villalobos
Zip
Matt John (live)
Room Two
B PITCH CONTROL: Ellen Allien
Kiki
Drama Society (live)
Room Three
Tom Middleton
King Britt

however i don't think i'm ready for fabric again after the villalobos/hawtin horror. but if anyone finds out anything about an afterparty then i might well be up for that...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 19 February 2006 04:46 (eighteen years ago) link

haha so far my rolling dancing 2006 big dates are a virtual carbon copy of my rolling london 2005 big dates - vitalic at bugged out last jan, tomas andersson this jan; bpitch night at fabric last march, bpitch night at fabric this march. yeah, march 4 sounds ace.

tiga at bugged out was pretty good last night too!

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 19 February 2006 19:29 (eighteen years ago) link

oh shit lex, really sorry...i never check my gmail and didnt see this thrwead before i went! what a shame, dirty canvas was prretty giood although a bit strange and sort of took a looong time to warm up...straigth outta bethnal was on fire! that is definitely worth going to next time, JME and skepta were big, think some of selw dem were there but dont know anything about them. JME was doing this tune which was this really philistine sort of funk, slow, heavy bare beats which were really clunky but awesome! dunno what it was. the renegade boys turned up from whitechapel but they didnt really set the room on fire any more than they had done at dirty canvas. chantelle and hattie collions were doing a decent set, plasticman was really good as well. left when newham generals came on.

ambrose (ambrose), Sunday, 19 February 2006 22:32 (eighteen years ago) link

it's ok, i didn't go in the end - was a bit down in the dumps on friday, so went to a friend's flat and drank rum until we passed out. i'll make the next one though. i saw fiddy and collins on hackney road lugging their rekkids down to 333!

did i mention ALTERN8 at bugged out yesterday? that cheered me up.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 20 February 2006 12:13 (eighteen years ago) link

hello london dancing people! any info on things to do techno-wise midweek 28th Feb (Tues) to 2nd March (Thurs) and Monday 6th or March 6th (Monday)? I will be passing through London on these dates and would like to sample your nightlife, etc. I hear there is a Stink party which is supposed to be fun on Mondays first of the month: is it happening on the 6th? I can't find any info online. help

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 20 February 2006 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

yes, stink is at the t-bar in shoreditch on the 6th...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 20 February 2006 14:22 (eighteen years ago) link

great, this is excellent timing! It looks like Michael Mayer is spinning on the 6th with Damian Lazarus & Margaret Dygas.

http://www.residentadvisor.net/event_view.asp?ID=11349

If any ILMers are making it out to this one I'd love to meet y'all. I'm in from Japan for few days/not a freakish internet weirdo/interested in the faces behind the names.

Also this is a free party. How do London clubs work? Do you have to get there early/be on guestlist to get in or avoid a queue?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 20 February 2006 14:39 (eighteen years ago) link

who is Margaret Dygas? i feel ignorant.

i've not been to stink, but my guess is that getting there early is advisable - anyone?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 20 February 2006 14:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Margaret Dygas? no idea. I just felt guilty only copy and pasting the other two.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 20 February 2006 14:52 (eighteen years ago) link

margaret dygas is a resident at back to yours and plays at fabric and has played in berlin and stuff. she was really good fun when i saw her, and also v cute. the tunes she played were in that category "dunno what this is but its wicked" - this category is massive for me cos i dont know anything except for brutalga square and a.n.other

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 20 February 2006 15:34 (eighteen years ago) link

Toby - were you aware the Old Queen's Head round the corner from your house has just been done up by the Evil Fabric Overlord?* Roots Manuva apparently played there on Friday and various other people are promised... might be worth keeping an eye on.

*I for one welcome...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 20 February 2006 22:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Ooh, I am DJing at Lovelife on the 28th by the way. Come along and drink, London.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 20 February 2006 22:45 (eighteen years ago) link

yes matt, i am aware of that - roots manuva was only djing though, i think. i'm hoping they get really into this and end up having villalobos etc djing...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 05:12 (eighteen years ago) link

...and I am DJing at Lovelife this Monday

it will be a HIP HOP AND R&B SPECIAL

do come!

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 23 February 2006 16:24 (eighteen years ago) link

so, is anyone going to stink on monday? and does anyone know anything about a fabric afterparty on sunday? i saw a hint somewhere that it might be at the t-bar...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 2 March 2006 08:33 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm not sure about stink on monday, but i'm almost certainly going to the bpitch night. dunno about afterparty though - i have to go to what looks like a semi-civilised birthday party on sunday...

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 2 March 2006 13:59 (eighteen years ago) link

from another messageboard:

we're going to have fabric go on until 9am on saturday night / sunday morning so make sure you bring dancing shoes, then....

we're having another big fuck off afterparty just like the we had back in November just for the sake of it as it would be bloody rude not to wouldn't it.

so then, on sunday from midday we're taking over the T-bar until midnight Very Happy

musical entertainment will be provided by any of the DJs that are still standing from Saturday!

which does sound good. but i suspect that dancing won't be what i feel like on sunday afternoon.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 3 March 2006 08:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Not sure if I can make Fabric as I'll be at a birthday party beforehand. It's in Farringdon and chucks out at 2 so Fabric might be an option, but it'll be rammed by then, won't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 3 March 2006 09:52 (eighteen years ago) link

toby, what time do you intend to get to fabric? do you have my number? i don't know when i'll get there yet...

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Hey -

Margaret Dygas is great. Plays some awesome minimal stuff. There is an excellent mix of hers on minimallondon, in the mixtapes section.

I'll be at Fabric on Saturday night, after party for a bit maybe, and T-Bar on Monday definately.

T-Bar has been getting really busy. Last Stink for DJ Koze was a little bit like DC-10, still cheering and up for it at 2am on a school night. Which is fun.

Then there is James Holden at T-Bar on Thursday. Big week. Fun.

anyone know anything thats going on the 14th-16th? i have two friends from the states coming through and as far as im concerned they need to experience very large amounts of dirty techno.

emma cleveland (emma cleveland), Saturday, 4 March 2006 13:01 (eighteen years ago) link

oh p.s.

does that italodisco night still go on? i remember that being midweek.

emma cleveland (emma cleveland), Saturday, 4 March 2006 13:31 (eighteen years ago) link

hello all, i am in london for one night and i am definitely heading down to stink if anyone would like to hook up. with luck there will be a small gang of us. Im glad to hear that dygas is the business because lazarus sure wasnt when i heard him in Tokyo but i am willling to forgive anything to see mayer. /fanboy. How late will this thing go? I assumed it was all night but will it stop at 2 or so?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Saturday, 4 March 2006 19:05 (eighteen years ago) link

i think i've heard that it goes until 3. sorry for crying off fabric this evening - after november's villalobos/hawtin i can't face the fullness, and there was no way i was going to make that and stink anyway.

i'm going to stink, and so's tom (ledge). anyone else? lex, ricky?

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:02 (eighteen years ago) link

for those of you who've been to stink before: what time is it sensible/necessary to arrive?

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 5 March 2006 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

i couldn't persuade a single person to come to fabric with me, so i stayed in and got cooked for by my flatmate.

i don't know about stink - will see how i feel tomorrow. last time i went we were at 93 feet east until 11, then we wandered on down to the t bar, and it was a good time to arrive - if i go tomorrow i shall be doing the same. all people up for stink, 93ft east beforehand!

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 5 March 2006 14:56 (eighteen years ago) link

i wished i had gone out last night.

i am very keen to go out next weekend, i'm thinking about steve barnes at the key, but really, i'll go anywhere, i need a big blow out

i'll see about monday

terry lennox. (gareth), Sunday, 5 March 2006 15:08 (eighteen years ago) link

I walked past Fabric at about 3am and briefly considered going in until I saw the queue. Quite glad I didn't considering no one was in there.

I am up for the Key this weekend.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:02 (eighteen years ago) link

I went to Fabric. It was good. Matt John was very impressive. Kiki was nice. Ellen Allien a little dissapointing. Ricardo Villalobos and Zip excellent.

Fabric wasnt as rammed as it has been. All in all fairly manageable. They also extended the hours and it was open till 9.30am. When I left at 8, Ricardo and Zip were playing back to back, dancefloor had space to move and upstairs was half full.

Afterparty at T-Bar was excellent too. Ricardo played back to back with Kiki / Matt John / Zip and Craig Richards. Lots of random messiness but quite funny.

Stink tomorrow will likely go till 2. Last Stink went till 3-3.30, but I think theyve been wrapping up a bit earlier. Anyway should be fun. Margaret Dygas mix is available at: http://www.minimallondon.com/margaret_dygas/mixtapes/margaret_dygasMIXTAPE_underl_nemix.zip

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:00 (eighteen years ago) link

cant make tonite (not sure how many mondays im going to be able to make)

definitely keen on the key at the weekend though

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:05 (eighteen years ago) link

i can make no plans for the weekend (inc those you referred to in your text last night, gareth) - i think my friday might be quite big. also i don't know how to get guestlist for the key and i can't afford to pay for clubs.

contemplating holden at the t bar on thu.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:09 (eighteen years ago) link

what is holden?

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:21 (eighteen years ago) link

james holden! dude who remixed 'the sky was pink' and made it amazing.

I'm staying in tonight, and am busy elsewhere on Saturday, but will be rocking Bangface on Friday as per.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:55 (eighteen years ago) link

So I went. It was good. Lot of really excellent trance. Like The Knife - Silent Shout being really well received. Yes, kinda minimal, but really trance.

rchinn (rchinn), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 03:56 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, the knife was definitely a highlight. i now know why i don't usually drink when i go out dancing, though :-(

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 09:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Yup, that was fun, I'd go again. Although it did make me yearn for the good ol' IDM club nights of yesteryear...
