According to three sources, Jon Gruden spent round 1 of the draft imploring the #Raiders: Draft Johnny Manziel. Just imagine #whatif

LOL @ RAIDERS

lag∞n, Friday, 5 January 2018 20:26 (six years ago) link

I think this is a solid move. The Raiders are in the same position the Chargers are in ... even if they're good, fans will be slow to convert to them. Vegas is Cowboys/Broncos territory imo. A famous big personality head coach isn't a terrible idea if they can keep him away from personnel decisions. Raiders are pretty drab when you get down to it so maybe he can help reinvigorate them somewhat.

Nick Saban makes over 10 million a year I believe.

earlnash, Friday, 5 January 2018 21:36 (six years ago) link

Saban has a a good deal more impressive a resume (in the NCAA) than Gruden has in the NFL

Asked about the use of analytics, Jon Gruden said he’s not focused on “the GPSes” and all that. “I’m trying to bring the game back to 1998.” #Raiders

daer veg -- where do you and your \m/ raiders fans stand on the team these days?

because as a neutral observer, fuck 'em

mookieproof, Saturday, 11 August 2018 03:47 (five years ago) link

1 - how is that different than any other year though

2 - it’s my team! wtf am i supposed to do, become a niners fan? i am mostly dismayed by them but i am not at the point where i am turning my back on them yet. plus i have a group of tailgating friends in the same boat & we all sort of know that we at least like each other if the team sux almost all the time

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 11 August 2018 04:22 (five years ago) link

but i get defensive bcz ppl act like it’s nbd to switch teams or stop watching football BUT IT IS FOR ME :(

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 11 August 2018 04:25 (five years ago) link

i dunno. i have an awkward relationship with the steelers -- the league is evil and their hall-of-fame QB is at best an asshole, but they were an ENORMOUS part of my childhood and my links to home. but if they were leaving for vegas i would never ever forgive them, let alone tailgate to the very end

your perspective is almost certainly better

mookieproof, Saturday, 11 August 2018 04:47 (five years ago) link

while they are still here i am going to try to make the best of it

idk what it will be like when they go. i dont like thinking about it :(

i work with a guy who played on the 84 champ team, very nice man

sprout god (lag∞n), Saturday, 11 August 2018 13:37 (five years ago) link

he loooves al davis, said he was a cool and real with the players

sprout god (lag∞n), Saturday, 11 August 2018 13:42 (five years ago) link

wow that’s awesome! yeah a lot of the old guys love Al, he was very loyal to his old players, often long after their careers were over with. (idk if it dropped off in later years or it was only certain guys/teams he took a shine to but there are lots of stories of him helping guys out)

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 11 August 2018 15:35 (five years ago) link

yeah like he said one of his first days there after coming over from another team al davis saddled up to him at training camp and started asking what he thought of the system they were running and so forth, which he said on his old team wldve been unthinkable even from a coach much less an owner

sprout god (lag∞n), Saturday, 11 August 2018 19:48 (five years ago) link
