Sometimes it's hard to tell if he's being fucked over, or being a spanner, or hoping he'll get screwed so he can say "I told you so" afterwards, or all of the above.

Which is to say, I think it's amazing that he's so uncompromising, but I'm not always sure he's telling the truth, based on my experience with less-talented male blowhards of a similar age.

e.g. There's a really long-winded interview here where Moore keeps talking about wanting to be called up and "thanked for the money" by Dave Gibbons, which made me a little leery of him, at least with regards to his personal relationships with artists.

wonder is anyone ever worked out that Dr Mid-Nite, the superhero with an owl for a pet, is actually the alter-ego of "Dr McNider", the identical looking man with an owl for a pet

I have to say that golden age hooty is very expressive for an owl who doesn't say anything apart from variations on "whoo", i.e that heavy lidded look of disdain he's giving Dr Mid-Nite on the penultimate panel of the origin story, the question mark in the previous panel that indicates he's hooting in a quizzical fashion etc

love the loopy lateral thinking which leads dr mcnider to only barely rename himself after owl-based inspiration strikes rather than, y'know, calling himself owl-man

It's Professor Dark-Ness, who had a startlingly-similar 'I once was blind but now I see through the eyes of a little birdie friend' origin story.

In all seriousness, I believe he's speaking to Hourman, whose power is basically getting really hopped up on homemade bennies, so the intense identification he's relating to Dr. Mid-Nite is a side-effect of what's commonly known as 'tweaking' (which might have been made clearer if Hourman were also sweating profusely and uncontrollably sniffing).

I don't really get why they're doing this, unless it's just company policy to troll Alan Moore or anyone who's worked with him. Even if the original creators came back, these would be niche properties. Now they're just a subset of a niche.

I think you pretty much nailed their motives.

it can only be deliberate trolling or gross incompetence, really

either way, not a great look for dc

particularly since either way it's hard not to interpret as evidence of creative bankruptcy - being reduced to resurrecting old properties created by someone who absolutely despises you and, as chuck says, were not exactly blockbuster successes in the first place should be mortally embarrassing for everyone involved

it's just bizarre to take promethea, a character developed explicitly so moore could explore esoteric magical interpretations of the qabalah, and graft her into a justice league

like what is this character gonna bring that, say, doctor fate wouldn't? it's not energised new readers desperate to read the further adventures of promethea, that's for sure

that was the one character I figured they'd leave alone, but you know... DC
