congrats to the Browns on this historic season

Vikings... who knows, I thought they'd be 8-8 this year, defense should really scare ppl though I'm not as sold on Keenum as many

if Case Keenum doesn't title his post-season mostly ghostwritten inspirational tome "Case by Case" i'll be disappointed.

mccoy :(

bills getting to the playoffs for the first time since the polk administration and losing their good player week 17 would be extremely bills

Agreed. Even Red Zone can’t make these games seem exciting, either, despite all of the hot air the announcers are blowing.

Bunch of lame duck teams bashing each other senseless in front of half-empty stadiums on New Years Eve.

Lol cincy, nice.

the playoff absence of Seattle, Dallas, and GB is a late Xmas gift for NFL fans.

NFC is anyone's guess now that Philly has come back down to earth but they could still make the SB.

NE out of the AFC I'm sure.

BILLS IMO

I kinda don't think Hue Jackson is nearly as bad a head coach as his 1-31 record would indicate, but it's a number that is impossible to live down.

John McKay lost a ton of games with the Bucs, but he had won 4 national titles at USC, so he gets a pass.

Kinda surprised that Jim Caldwell got the boot in Detroit. I always a bit suspect of him in Indy, but really I think he did about as good as possible with what he had with the Lions. Did anyone really pick the Lions to be any better than 9-7?

earlnash, Monday, 1 January 2018 19:12 (six years ago) link

I've always thought of Caldwell as a lousy coach but yea he's been doing a good job in Detroit. Don't really get that move

will say it's kind of funny that the Browns decide to put their foot down and say we're finally sticking with someone but god damn. I like Hue but he sucks.

nice that GB is finally moving on from Capers after putting a lousy defense on the field for like the 5th consecutive year. feel like after GB won the Super Bowl people figured his ass out quick.

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 January 2018 03:26 (six years ago) link

GB seems to not have the depth and gets swamped by injuries. They are the best team first week of October and then a patchwork by the time the playoffs show up.

earlnash, Tuesday, 2 January 2018 04:10 (six years ago) link

all these guys like Ted Thompson and McCarthy get their fuckin heads gassed up and think they are such savvy dudes and it's just like y'all stumbled on to 2 hall of fame qbs in a row (who also until now were barely ever hurt) and that covers up for all kinds of shit

Joan Digimon (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 2 January 2018 04:21 (six years ago) link

the broncos did not fire their bad head coach but they did fire all the assistants left over from when they were good lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 2 January 2018 04:22 (six years ago) link

Thompson and Capers definitely deserve credit for their Super Bowl year - Thompson hit on a number of undrafted free agents that had to take the place of injured starters, and Capers' defense was great. In retrospect it's kind of obvious that Ted just got lucky one year, and the defense benefitted greatly from both statistical variance (I think they led the league turnover margin) and the presence of a surprisingly resurgent Charles Woodson. You also had Matthews and Raji playing at a level they wouldn't hit the rest of their careers. Their defense fell apart the very next year, which tends not to matter when you're averaging 35 points a game, but they definitely paid the price later on...

last bengals playoff victory: january 6, 1991 over the houston oilers

Today in 1993, the Houston Oilers suffer their biggest choke, blowing a 35-3 lead at the half to the Buffalo Bills.
