Unavailable to those outside Canada
only one solution. I've gotta go to Canada to watch it!
― mh, Thursday, 2 August 2018 20:38 (five years ago) link
It’s super interesting + depressing. Definitely worth coming to Montreal to watch in a Mutek-hangover haze in yr plateau airbnb as the gentrification implodes around you.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 3 August 2018 01:48 (five years ago) link
Please don't come to Montreal. If you do, stay in a properly zoned hotel downtown. Please don't come to my local and ask for sangria by the glass or ask "do you have any sour beers." Don't go to Mutek, don't come near me, stay the fuck away from the Jean-Talon market or I'll fucking hit you.
― fields of salmon, Friday, 10 August 2018 00:39 (five years ago) link
someone hasn't been reading any of my posts ever
I was the one who introduced sour beers to montreal

I'll be visiting for Labor Day weekend!!! It's been way too long.

I thought about going for the aforementioned festival again but opted against it because, idk, I just need some unstructured time to do absolutely nothing and loaf away from town. How long's your roommate on vacay, Will? :)
― mh, Friday, 10 August 2018 19:45 (five years ago) link
Unstructured time to do absolutely nothing should be guaranteed by society.

Please continue to avoid Montreal during peak times. For booking your visits, consider November, a month in which your visit will be considered respectful, rather than simply being another piece of clutter in a world already dying because of plastic that can't break down in the ocean. Don't like dolphins? Got it.

Someone other than fields of salmon : what's the earliest in the year I can go to Montreal and it be pleasant out? Wikipedia seems to suggest June
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Saturday, 25 August 2018 06:13 (five years ago) link
The end of May is usually quite pleasant, though two years ago it snowed on May 6 so June makes sense as an absolutely safe bet.
― rob, Saturday, 25 August 2018 13:07 (five years ago) link
yeah june is the safe bet

Have you tried a sour beer? Have you trieeeed a soooooour beeeer? You should look for them. They're apparently really critical recently, so you should ask people who are working to earn university degrees that you already have or are earning about sour beers! Good luck!

https://casadelpopolo.com/pensione-popolo/https://hotelcastleruins.com/there's also an apartment owned by/above the restaurant La Khaima (on airbnb i think) that seems ok

I will be monitoring all of your IP addresses. If any of you use keywords that indicate you might come north of the tracks I will dispatch a bunch of angry bees and wasps I have been hiding in a tent-like structure in my back garden.
― fields of salmon, Sunday, 14 April 2019 21:14 (five years ago) link
you want people to avoid coming to your city with all of the fervor of someone who has lived here for approximately 4 years. it is impressive
― they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boot Edge Edge" (Will M.), Monday, 15 April 2019 15:24 (five years ago) link
can't believe people are now building their own artisan-quality tent-like structures instead of just buying tents
― mh, Monday, 15 April 2019 21:31 (five years ago) link
googling "north of the tracks" "montreal", looking for airbnbs in villeray

thinking about sour beers
the best part is that fields of salmon posts like an angry old man and we’re youth wandering around doing youthful distasteful things and he’s like a year older than me at most
― mh, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 00:36 (five years ago) link
Fields, which part of Montreal you from?
― Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 04:38 (five years ago) link
I have never heard anyone refering to any place as ‘north of the train tracks’ in my 20 years here. Which train tracks? There are 3 tracks that go east-west across the island.
― Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 04:42 (five years ago) link
Maybe this whole time Fields was a senior living in VMR who sure hates the sight of youngsters hanging around Canora station.
― Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 04:44 (five years ago) link
I assume he's referring to Mile Ex.

"do you have any sour beers" is usually my first question on entering any soi-disant craft beer pub. i won't come to montreal
― imago, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 07:41 (five years ago) link
Ask if they have 'de la bière sûre' and fields of salmon will have no choice but to relent.

I doubt a member of gy!be would live in the plateau during the peak horribleness years.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 18:37 (five years ago) link
going to be wandering progressively north on the plateau next week hollering about sour beers fyi
