I’m still trying to get on the NYC MM program for my Crohn’s, going to try some cbd-intensive strains. I’m not a smoker at all. Neighbor hosted a trial run for me (a mostly-cbd strain, using a vape thingy). Was not stoned at all. Just felt distinctly chilled out with no feeling of sedation.

On the nyc mm program I guess I’ll be getting stuff in an oil or vaping cartridge form?

I had an appointment scheduled with a gastroenterologist who participates in the program last week but he had a family emergency and now I’m waiting to reschedule.

Whats the difference between tablets, sprays, vapes, smoking?

cherry blossom, Monday, 25 December 2017 06:57 (six years ago) link

IIRC, CBD is not very bioavailable orally compared to smoking or vaping. The studies that have gotten good results were 150mg+ daily of CBD, which is probably not feasible for most people financially. The best results also seemed to come from CBD combined with low amounts of THC (like 20:1), which isn't a go for people without recreational access or good medical programs.

Hmmm, so theres the catch, I knew it!

What do you think about sublingual? reading conflicting stuff about this method

cherry blossom, Monday, 25 December 2017 08:41 (six years ago) link

I've only done sublingual THC and even a few drops of high-proof alcohol is unpleasant enough that I didn't go back for seconds.

I’ve not read most of this thread but regarding what’s the difference in vaping:

Vapourizers control the temperature at which weed burns. Cannabis has far more sub-parts to it than simply “CBD” and “THC”

By that i mean there are different components of CBD, THC and terpenoids that burn and/or “activate” at various temperatures. Each component affects you differently

Extraction of them into liquid form i will guess depends on the quality and balance of the isolate, like someone else mentioned above

The cheap vape pens have poor temperature control, so you can end up burning your weed or not getting a high enough stable temperature

If it’s too high, you start burning the carcinogenic component of the weed (mimicking rolling a joint and smoking it). If it’s too low you might not even start burning any THC

Personally, i have a Crafty and it gives me stable and accurate temperature control and i have the ability to change the temperature depending on what type of high i want

Obviously this isn’t even getting into the quality of the weed

My friend grows his own stuff and it’s organic. He has been to the Netherlands and other parts of the world to try out their bud. He knows his stuff and has great talent for growing it. His stuff is the best i have ever tried because he grows them with such care, low pesticides and searched a lot for imo great seedlings

Moodles, Monday, 25 December 2017 20:50 (six years ago) link

CBD doesn't get you high exactly, but there's something in really large doses. I did a couple of pure CBD dabs and it felt sort of like taking a Xanax.

louise ck (milo z), Monday, 25 December 2017 22:20 (six years ago) link

^ yeah. CbD is not psycho active so it won't get you high. It's also comparable to GABA, creates a low level buzz feeling. Definitely takes the edge off

kolakube (Ross), Monday, 25 December 2017 22:27 (six years ago) link

Extraction of CBD has gotten good at diminishing the amt of THC that seeps in, the cannabinoid that gets you high

But ya it also depends on what you mean by “high”? CBD relaxes yr body which is why liquid form will give you an total body analgesic effect

infinity (∞), Monday, 25 December 2017 22:30 (six years ago) link

My life has been transformed for the better by taking oil which has a ratio of THC and CBD (not sure what the ratio is exactly.) The high is very good indeed, but the CBD helps with physical pain, digestion, and chronic fatigue. I can only recommend it evangellically.

anxiety is pounding away, it didnt do anything at all!

cherry blossom, Thursday, 28 December 2017 16:11 (six years ago) link

I’ve noticed a few places use CBD as a catch-all term to mean any cannabinoid, probably because they don’t know exactly how much and what exact parts of the plant are extracted

It’s always good to inquire but even then when I use some of the gels on my grandfather, it has little effect on him

I have another source of this particular gel and it looks almost identical, with the same wording, but this one has way more effect on him. Kinda buyer beware unfortunately

In terms of the drops, it depends how long you’ve been doing it, body size and how you consume it

Obviously, IANAD, but if you haven’t consumed any in any form for years or you never have, and you are drinking it, 1-2 drops in some juice or something should do the trick. Probably twice a day depending on how bad your symptoms are

You can also vape it if you find a vapourizer that lets you vape liquids, but I imagine the dosage for this is different

this is the one i did, and literally nothing. anxiety strong.

maybe it takes time to build up if you dont have the receptors?

cherry blossom, Thursday, 28 December 2017 16:33 (six years ago) link

again, ianad, and this is kind of unsafe territory but you can try upping the dosage a tiny tiny bit (if you have a larger body mass low doses might not affect you much), but there is no build up necessary i wanna say?

i would try a different brand or even source if upping the amt/spray count doesnt help

good luck and be safe

well its only second day of doing it so far!

cherry blossom, Friday, 29 December 2017 11:50 (six years ago) link

The studies that had a benefit for anxiety were using at least 10X that amount. I know that personally it takes about 40mg of CBD to have any effect orally.

For sources, ironically the CBD subreddit has the best list of suppliers with recent quality tests.

sorry the mrs are correct, the mgs were wrong

4.8mg, 4.8mg, 7.2mg, 7.2mg in one day. still quite low by looks of it. I will try larger doses tomorrow, thats a lot of spraying though...many times during day, or fewer times with more spray?

cherry blossom, Saturday, 30 December 2017 01:57 (six years ago) link

Fewer times, more spray, IMO. You could try however many sprays get you to 20mg at once for a starter?

louise ck (milo z), Saturday, 30 December 2017 02:50 (six years ago) link

To put the amounts in perspective, THC is way more potent mg for mg and 5mg THC doses are sold as almost unnoticeable microdoses in legal states here.

kolakube (Ross), Saturday, 30 December 2017 03:03 (six years ago) link

I tried doing 20mg at once and there was some reduction in anxiety, fairly muted but it was there - though of course anxiety is variable!

cherry blossom, Sunday, 31 December 2017 09:07 (six years ago) link

the thing I don't understand about sublingual is, you hold it there for 3 minutes or whatever because it goes in faster, then you swallow it? but that mean the stuff thats still in your mouth hasn't gone in the sublingual way?

cherry blossom, Sunday, 31 December 2017 09:08 (six years ago) link

I just hold it as long as possible while working

cherry blossom, Sunday, 31 December 2017 09:09 (six years ago) link

The 3 minutes sounds like a general guide

I assume some people can’t go a long time without the need to swallow

Administering liquids under the tongue ensures they enter the bloodstream faster without the so called first pass effect of breaking down/potentially losing its potency in the gastrointestinal tract, stomach, then liver

If you’re swallowing minuscule amounts of it, I don’t think it’s a big deal, especially since you are now taking way more than the product suggests

infinity (∞), Sunday, 31 December 2017 14:08 (six years ago) link

so I massively increased the dose, and was doing 20mg at once the last few days, 6 or 7 times a day and....its nearly all gone. It did kind of work a bit. I think maybe a try the vape

cherry blossom, Monday, 1 January 2018 10:44 (six years ago) link

I've been messing around with CBD for the last few weeks and have had best results from vaping high CBD low THC bud (surprisingly easy to get hold of in UK?!) It's like my body gets stoned but my brain doesn't? Really reduces pain in muscles and lessens body stress/anxiety. Not a wonder cure but any reduction in symptoms is welcome tbh.

been using cbd oil for a few weeks, felt quite good initially but noticed i've been getting upset stomach a lot more. i have ibs but usually related to eating certain things. i wondered is it possible i'm swallowing it more than i notice when taking it sublingually. i find it quite hard to know how much is being administered and now i think about it, whether i'm properly administering it sublingually. i mean without getting ridiculous should i be telling myself to say "ah" like a doctor would when you're a kid.

alternatively i guess i could start vaping it instead? dunno where to start with that tho.

FernandoHierro, Friday, 31 August 2018 15:27 (five years ago) link

i have a lot of chronic weakness and muscle pain and the first week it seemed to help a lot with that, i was exercising more and sleeping better, but the upset stomach just exacerbates those issues so it's become harder to tell how effective it's been.

calstars, Saturday, 25 January 2020 01:09 (four years ago) link

I swear by plain ol' melatonin for sleep issues, no CBD needed.

I recently read a book ("Suggestible You") about the placebo effect, which not only illustrates how some are more susceptible to it than others (perhaps a genetic trait), but how the problems the placebo effect is most effective in countering are often pretty much exactly the bulk of what CBD is typically purported to do. Pain, depression, nausea, insomnia, and anxiety, among them. (It's apparently also the cannabinoid receptors in our brains that enable to placebo effect.)

The way I see it is, until there's a study that says it's harmful, there's really no harm in trying, especially if you get results.

That's another human drug we give to pets for their benefit. I wonder if there is an element of correlation vs. causation, like the way people who talk or sing to their plants reportedly get better results than those who don't.
