Emmitt Smith was great, but the dude had the luck of both being on the best exact place to put up tons and tons of yards and being durable enough to play forever. Smith was a masher and great running back to just pound the rock, but I can probably name on a hand at least a handful of guys I saw play that were more dangerous because of their speed and moves etc.

this game is bad.
― Spottie, Sunday, 24 December 2017 04:23 (six years ago) link
yeah obv if you switch emitt smith w Barry sanders then Barry prob averages 3k yards a season and emitts name is unknown.
― Spottie, Sunday, 24 December 2017 04:24 (six years ago) link
Smith would have been really good, but it would not have been as easy and he probably would have taken a worse pounding. Larry Allen alone, that era Cowboy o-line was the best of it's time.
Sanders kept a bunch of his teams in the game. They never got over that next level, but they won quite a few games. A couple of times they had a good passing games, they just couldn't get it all together to take that next step.
― earlnash, Sunday, 24 December 2017 06:46 (six years ago) link
feel like every lions season they had sanders they had to win out their last three games to make the playoffs and save their coaches job and they always did it then lost in the first round

This is extremely unlikely but damn it would be the most hilarious thing
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21863467/teams-complain-nfl-green-bay-packers-violated-ir-rule-think-aaron-rodgers-released
Multiple teams complained to the NFL last week that the Packers violated the rules regarding players who are eligible to be placed on injured reserve -- and that Green Bay should have to release quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a result, league sources told ESPN.NFL rules stipulate that a player needs to have suffered a new injury that would sideline him at least six weeks to be placed on injured reserve. If that is not the case, the team is obligated to release the player once he is healthy.

NFC playoff layout as of now is pretty interesting, too bad it is probably just a setup to get beat by NE in the Superbowl.
― earlnash, Monday, 25 December 2017 01:16 (six years ago) link
feel like maybe replay officials shd only be allowed to go to a certain level of slowmo
― lag∞n, Monday, 25 December 2017 04:13 (six years ago) link
As much as I'd like to see them win again, NE looks fairly beatable in the playoffs.

xp
Who is going to beat the Pats? Steelers in Gillette? Jags? I would think anything less than getting to the Superbowl would be a let down. They are not anywhere near the best of the Pats teams or anything over the past decade or so, but the league is pretty mushy these days on good teams.
Eagles would probably be the big favorite if old boy hadn't got hurt, as they do look pretty good all the way around.
One of those NFC South could get hot and go to the Superbowl. Vikings are pretty good all the way around, so maybe they make it their year. I'd be good with that scenario myself. I'd like to have bet 20 on the Rams going to the Superbowl way back around the draft, that might turn out to be a pretty good payoff if it happens and it is still a long shot at this point.

feel like almost all "great" RBs either feel overrated because of where they played (Bettis, E. Smith) or supremely talented but somehow unsatisfying careers (Adrian Peterson, Barry Sanders)

I have a decent amount of confidence in the Vikings ability to turn the Superbowl into a dreary 21-13 slugfest that everyone outside the home markets stops watching

There is a certain sweetness to read about a bunch of Cowboys hand wringing. It is good when not is all going well in Jerrahworld. It's funny that their stadium is the ultimate neutral site, even for the Cowboys. I'll be kind of surprised if Garrett gets fired, but man, he might kind of wish he does.
It's also hilarious that the Hatcats have screwed around and probably going to lose their QB. It's been a LONG LONG time since even a decent QB changed teams. I got to think Cousins is going to Denver, that makes way too much sense. They still have some picks and some good players. Got to wonder, would this had finally been the time and place for Wade Phillips to have been a head coach? Dude that defense really tuned up. Don't know.
Kinda curious in where Bruce Arians goes. If he leaves AZ, which he probably should - I got to think the Colts or Broncos might give him a call.
