It's not the actions, it's the self-satisfied tone.

is it just me or is there an odd disconnect between the bottom two rows and the more 50 Shades of Grey type pictures on the top row

i take it this British Nostalgic Bible site a parody then?

following the British Nostalgic Bible, it will help me assimilate

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 4 December 2017 11:03 (six years ago) link

having looked again, the picture on the left of the centre column looks like it comes from some sort of adult film as well?

soref, Monday, 4 December 2017 11:03 (six years ago) link

I looked at the page... It's full of really badly degraded watermarked images of old ladies sweeping their doorsteps and memes that say things like 'Share if you remember the name of your rag and bone man'

FREEZE! FYI! (dog latin), Monday, 4 December 2017 11:07 (six years ago) link

It's mostly too banal (share if you're hoping for a white christmas!) to be satire imo.

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 4 December 2017 11:08 (six years ago) link

yeah it's not satire, but some of it is very very close. I want to trump it with one that clearly nostalgises things that happened in pre-WWI Britain, and once that's become popular, make another page for late-Victorian Britain etc etc until I'm doing 'Share if you remember powdered wigs' or whatever

my new pet peeve is people who are posting political infographics they found on twittter and thinking they're sourced from PBS because twitter's image host is "pbs.twimg.com"

once, all the villagers decided to pray for rain. on the day of prayer, all people gathered but only boy one brought an umbrella. it did not rain. this cycle continued for several weeks, with the villagers praying and only the boy bringing the umbrella, and with no rain. on the 22nd day, it rained, and all the villagers worshipped the little boy as a prophet. That's The Dumbest Shit I Ever Heard, LOL

Actually, on the 20th day without rain they just stabbed him to death with the umbrella

can I just say how much I hate that joke structure where the punchline is some snappy retort plus the name of a previously unnamed character, e.g. "I said not at work, Karen!"

I actually have a traditional white corner shop as my local one now and it is fucking miserable. Sour-faced old trout, in male or female form depending on the day, stands arms folded and follows me around with its sharp little eyes because I must look like a nicker. Whereas a trot up to the high street gets me to an Asian corner shop where they call me 'sir' or 'boss' or 'my friend' on principle. Both of these things are sheer formalities and neither shopkeeper cares very much of course, but still. It very much mirrors the situation with the barbers.

Heh, I've been online long enough that I would not, in fact, have thought this- if our own fascists didn't have a deep seam of stuff from the american far right to rip off, they'd have pretty much fuck all to say for themselves.

I saw a similar macro shared by an old schoolfriend which was complaining that back int' olden days binmen would come into your garden for you and drag the bin out and empty it and replace it and they weren't too lazy and now its terrible that we have to put our own bins on the street the night before. I pointed out that if someone was to start dragging six bins through my close at 8am on my day off and wake me up I would be a lot more angry than the minor unnoticable inconvenience of taking my turn to put the bins out.

Just moved into a new place where the binmen do come in – at 7am on a Sunday! – and drag the old-fashioned metal bins up the stairs from the back garden and through the close. What a fucking din. Glad I'm on the top floor.
