Bands I remember they use a flute frequently:

Jethro Tull, Camel, Mago de Oz... many bands from the Canterbury scene (Caravan is the band that comes to mind from that scene but iirc flutes are used a lot)

From this year Future - Mask Off has a flute thing going on which I guess is synth but it sounds eerie and beautiful.
