we should only have polls where Bodak Yellow wins every time

Yes, but the system should automatically add a second option which is “fuck you”

i've wanted this for years - first suggested it on Ideas for ILX five years ago. basically to give the possibility of doing a pick-only-five type approach. at this point i actually think it's a bad idea as it would lead to every single album that's ever been polled being re-polled. which might actually make more interesting and representative results but would also lose the clarity of "seven ilxors are clearly insane" and the basic sense of how large the interested population in fact is.

Think doc c has misread(?) "just one choice" in the title & interpreted the thread as meaning "should the current system of only being able to select one option when voting be allowed (no it shouldn't, let's change it)?" Whereas I assumed it meant "should we have polls which only HAVE one option to vote for (yes we should, let's implement that)?"

Tho ranked polls would surely return ilm to the very top of the list of interesting and valuable sites on the internet

We should get rid of polls as currently implemented. Mark S is right. We should create a new poll system that allows ranked voting and up to 200 options, but requires voting periods of a minimum of 30 days, and only allows polls to be created by the following process: 1- poll subject and description entered2- 432000 second waiting period3- poll appears on moderator interface 4- mod approves poll only after appropriate “nominations” thread is observed/submitted via MRF5- once poll is approved, original poster gets a link to their login email, which allows them to put in the voting options (including links! and graphics!) and submit the fully formed poll thread to new answers

I mean that’s the serious thinking person’s use case for polls here. As implemented currently, they’re good for the occasional laugh, but that’s about it.

at this point i actually think it's a bad idea as it would lead to every single album that's ever been polled being re-polled
for this very reason, it seems inevitable that the polling options will eventually change and this will happen. the id of ilm will demand it
however, on this 'only one choice' idea of JCLC's, i wasn't sure at first, but it's actually a really good idea and it should happen

The only one option poll challenge will be who can poll something so terrible, at the right time, that it actually gets 0 votes - and then one-upping each other for how long you can set the voting period and still get 0 votes in your inane 1-option poll

that's silly -- you can do that already. Just start the poll on a sub-board hardly anyone reads and make the title really boring
