Also very genial sounds and welcoming atmosphere from Onur in Paris

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frYAs-sZTJM

He didn't play it in the Asda though which is a shame

B side of the new Vid Vai 12" is a bucolic affair, quite closely reminiscent of something I can't place

My friend George has a new LP out:

Also my kid made a new track, but it's more dubsteppy than housey: https://soundcloud.com/user-351496707/unravel

Derek Carr has been putting out a string of absolutely immaculate EPs this year, and the latest is no different:

He's been churning them out this year, some of these are from the vaults I'm assuming. My favourite I already had from the Headspace release, and the other one on Anil's weird label of artificial scarcity

saer, Tuesday, 21 November 2017 23:25 (six years ago) link

if you squint this could have been produced by Riquelme in his Boca days, a bit of the old ride your bicycle into the canal vibe

saer, Wednesday, 22 November 2017 23:15 (six years ago) link

This is very charming! Wasn't my favourite track on the release at first, it is now though

i dig this but i can only find snippets so i'll have to buy it and hope the full tracks are solid: https://soundcloud.com/onirik/sets/fh10-onirik-fh10-ep

it's giving me flashbacks of the bad old days when i used to shop online at satellite records and groovetech :)

davey, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 10:32 (six years ago) link

I like Onirik in general but wasn't so keen on that one!

Unreleased track from Cosmjn

saer, Thursday, 30 November 2017 18:04 (six years ago) link

This might be my favourite record of the year, presumably. It feels like a pastiche of something I've never heard. I consulted the oracle and realized its music for my new life riding a motorbike through villages at high speed with no helmet

Been enjoying the DJ Seinfeld album lately. Only one mention of him on the whole of ilx (from a mix or something).

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 1 December 2017 14:24 (six years ago) link

been listening to this Paula Temple set from Awakenings

DJ Seinfeld is good.

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 4 December 2017 10:46 (six years ago) link

dj seinfeld is pretty good ... i have the season 1 and ruff hysteria EPs and like them a lot but didn't feel compelled to pick up the album

i actually think dj ross from friends is a bit better

the late great, Monday, 4 December 2017 19:22 (six years ago) link

feel like we should have a lo-fi house thread but not sure why

the late great, Monday, 4 December 2017 19:22 (six years ago) link

The dj seinfeld album has some good tracks but I really don't get that deliberately shitty production style, always find it borderline obnoxious

i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:17 (six years ago) link

i have a couple dozen "lo fi house" records and while i like listening to them, i think a lot of people don't realize (and probably don't care) how terrible these tracks sound on a real system and how difficult that production style makes mixing w/ vinyl

the late great, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:22 (six years ago) link

Like, one of house music's best features is its functionality and that function is to sound great on the dancefloor. To deliberately make a track sound like shit just seems like hipster fetishism at best

i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:22 (six years ago) link

in my experience it takes more effort to make something sound that lo-fi

boxedjoy, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:36 (six years ago) link

I'd be up for a lo-fi house thread. I hear the lo-fi aspect but to say it sounds "shit", can't agree there (not with the DJ Seinfeld album at least).

Is the Ross from Friends any good?

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:48 (six years ago) link

Maybe it does but that's not necessarily a point in its favour xp

i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:49 (six years ago) link

yeah that's what I find so strange about it. Why make all that effort to make something so functionally useless and frustratingly unsatisfying?

boxedjoy, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:50 (six years ago) link

ahoy mates, its another track from record with the Walt Ever track on - not as good as that one but its got a bit of the same motorbike charm.

saer, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:51 (six years ago) link

Maybe i should have said "shitty" rather than "shit" xxp

i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 20:52 (six years ago) link

lets try again!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb-wBTHWafQ

not sure who these two are pseudonyms for, Phil Evans maybe?

saer, Monday, 4 December 2017 20:54 (six years ago) link

Yeah that's quite tasty

Back at the breakfast club with el maestro FDG

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1CrQ0fA28A

probably more likely an old record, got that 4-4-2 away at deepdale vibe, two nippy wingers and a half time pint

and high octane boisterous business with the lads in Montevideo

bah essentialism
ilx has been through all this before on the hipster house thread surely, but i think maybe certain 'raw' house/tech visions of detroit/chicago led to the extreme lofi these guys are proffering, but yeah these new tracks probably don't have enough BOUNCE/dynamic range to rock hips adequately... these people probably are hipsters that like early industrial music and stuff though..

brimstead, Monday, 4 December 2017 21:30 (six years ago) link

i'll just leave this here...

765 tracks of Raw / House / Lo-Fi / Acid House

I have, and love, some old Trax stuff etc that sounds like it was pressed on a digestive biscuit but this stuff ain't that

i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 21:43 (six years ago) link

ha for sure! the stuff i like (such as the No Moon track i posted), goes for a more FACT home listening vibe

brimstead, Monday, 4 December 2017 21:51 (six years ago) link

we can put a lid on this can of worms if it's good, i didn't mean to track dirt in the temple

brimstead, Monday, 4 December 2017 21:54 (six years ago) link

That No Moon track isn't bad at all, I also loved stuff like Torn Hawk and Eleventeen Eston a couple of years back but they didn't seem intended for the floor

i know kore-eda (or something), Monday, 4 December 2017 22:04 (six years ago) link

not at all, eleventeen eston is more like instrumental hall and oates demos or something

brimstead, Monday, 4 December 2017 22:12 (six years ago) link

House and Techno bobbins should be any <i>good</i> new house including all sub genres imo.

mickcsmith (micarl), Tuesday, 5 December 2017 03:02 (six years ago) link

Got a copy of this finally
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo0l0yQ2OsQ

mickcsmith (micarl), Tuesday, 5 December 2017 03:04 (six years ago) link

Any ideas on either of the records Francesco is playing? The Paris one I think mightn't be easy but the Montevideo one seems like it shouldn'tbe too hard. I don't know what either is and they might be better off on the bobbins of the past thread but one of the moderators said that thread isn't accessible to most people, something to do with TCP/IP whatever that is

saer, Tuesday, 5 December 2017 06:41 (six years ago) link

I reckon we need a "Can you ID this House record played by a Romanian DJ" thread?
