Liberal voters will always cling to their fantasy of taxing their way to easy fixes. Conservative voters understand there are no easy fixes, and getting America back on track is going to take time and a lot of sacrifice and effort.

going to take time and a lot of sacrifice and effort
NB: only when the time, sacrifice and effort do not involve giving up any money, or any opportunities to make money, or one's leisure, or material goods. Good cloning of the rhetoric, though.

I pledge to
ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and
TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.

in the spirit of the thread title 1. “Grover Norquist” is an amazing name. It really is. 2. He is a fully realized character - if you read a novel with e.g. Paul Ryan in it, you’d groan every time he popped up, and assume (correctly) that the author was taking the piss, as they say - but you could probably read a 7-volume saga with Grover Norquist in it and develop strong opinions and feelings about the guy, and maybe even like him3. When he turns, you know it’s going to be good. If he goes to the grave as he is, at the very least, he’s established a handy reference for the philosophy he espouses and he has never made any bones about the logical ends of his line of thinking.

grover's continuing silence on these issues challenges my faith in the sincerity of 'americans for tax reform' and their holy pledge :(
