#1 - This thread was way more fun before we got the additional pictures.
yeah but it was kinda necessary that we got them in order to make this thread that perfect and kill it.
as it stands, it's kind of a work of art (sophie calle style) !

i agree. there has to be some sort of end to it, closure if you will. we cant go on endlessly speculating, even if that was the most fun. we'd sort of gotten to the end of the line given what was revealed in the original picture.

i love how on that other message board they call him wayne too.

why not have people email roxy pics and then she can post one a week? if she doesn't want to do it, someone else can

This is good. Mail possibilities to my email address below. I'll do one every Monday (maybe every other).

Did anyone ever note that the bottom of Wayne's left pant leg is wet?

Dude finally got back to me about how he found it on google:

Re: IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN DUDE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hahahah original caption is:
Awkward moment after an imaginary threesome.

Do a google image search for the word "awkward". You'll find the original pic about halfway down the page.

Then check out the page it comes from. It's called Diehl-in-Iraq. Apparently this party was one for a kid who is now in Iraq.

There is a folder by a girl, forget her name, and these pics come from her folder. There are several.

You're welcome.

Er, no. I think laughing at random people because of their appearance is rather nasty, I didn't know it was a common type of behaviour or anything.

Yes, this was stated very early on!

it's not just laughing at their appearance, it's the whole art of people watching. it's laughing at what you speculate is their entire motivation and raison d'être!

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Could someone summarise what exactly is known about "Wayne"? Even after wading through 600 odd posts he remains a tantalising mystery to me, a far more opaque character than Diehl. Do we know his real name? What his relationship to Diehl is? Any other concrete information?

Sarah B, Wednesday, 1 February 2006 17:58 (eighteen years ago) link

We don't! That's why I was surprised that people were so quick to close the book on this thread.

Although I could be asking the very same questions about YOU, mystery ILXor (I've surmised that you're British because of "summarise" -- what else do we know about Sarah B?)...

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm afraid I shall remain forever a mystery to you, jaymc.

Sarah B., Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I thought we surmised his real name was Bill.

what if you see a really ugly building? would you tell your friend "good lord that's an ugly building"?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Bill was another guy. I still think that Wayne's real name is Tommy Loftus.

hm.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:16 (eighteen years ago) link

I thought we surmised his real name was Bill

I think the Bill thing came from the fact that one of the photos with him not in it was captioned "Where the hell is Bill?" or something, but it's not 100% positive that he's the Bill missing from the pic.

PP, I don't know where you're getting "Tommy" from. Are you confusing him with Diehl's friend Tom Turnbull?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:34 (eighteen years ago) link

"totally wayne, dude!! *doodoodododooldoodloelodldodol "

i thought we established that it was "totally wayne, BRO!!"

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:45 (eighteen years ago) link

There was a myspace link up there where a friend of Diehl's made mention of The Syrup Kid, Tommy Loftus. Maybe they've got more than one Loftus in their pack. It is Pennsylvania after all.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh, good work, PP.

The comment is from Tommy Turnbull (who in another post compliments a roast-beef sandwich that Glen made for him, which on the wrapper was scrawled "Tommy T - No Tax"):

The Syrup Kid, glen, was none other than the shadeball Tommy Loftus. Well we should set somethin up this summer where we get some old friends and party it up. Rock on \W/

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:57 (eighteen years ago) link

But how do you know this Tommy Loftus is Wayne?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Because some of the filenames in the Diehl in Iraq photo album identified him as "loftus" -- for example "andy_loftus.jpg." (Andy being the other person in the photo.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:03 (eighteen years ago) link

There are five Loftuses in Drexel Hill, PA, on whitepages.com, including one Tom and another Thomas Jr.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Because he's referred to as "Loftus" in the galleries. The only lead we've got that his first name is Tommy comes from what jaymc just posted.

those girls are there to smoke a bowl before going to a party or something. they're at that house because the guy taking the picture has pot, maybe even sells it, and he lives in a house where such things don't matter much. the girl on the left is an athlete, but was certainly more of one a few years back; now, since she spent so much time on sports, most of her old - now popular - friends have moved on and she's left to a racier crowd: a crowd that will drink and smoke in not-so-flashy places. 'hooters' is the younger brother of this guy with pot who was more than eager to come in the room because it's rare he can be around such people, but his hopes have sort of sizzled out at this point -- he's not feeling as suave.

sadly, for both the men, the girls will soon be gone with a shaky excuse.

Peter Densmore (pbnmyj), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:24 (eighteen years ago) link

I really don't think its tommy loftus or tommy anything, based on the fact that Ryan already said he didn't know who the two beer queer was. Also in every picture he appears in everybody else is looking at/acting towards him like it's the first time they've met him. Guessing one of Ryan's friends brought this guy along to the party.

Also, key to Wayne's body language in the first pic is actually clearly: "I want to fire up that SNES so bad but I can't cause it would be weird"
knee grip expresses desire for a controller, not sublimated lust.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:27 (eighteen years ago) link

oh, and the picture was taken because the older brother was feeling a bit insecure about his company and their impresions of him and needed to do something to look engaged and purposeful... i hate to think that he might also be inadvertently making a joke of his brother -- something he'll realize after the girls leave and regret.

pete stop writing fiction! This is a scientific investigation and a couple of your postulates have already been counterindicated by the evidence.

How literally are we taking this statement, though? Maybe it's like if you did something stupid and then I gestured with my thumb toward you and asked the rest of the room, "Who's this clown?"

Loftus is clearly a guy they know but isn't in their tight-knit group of friends.
