This and the Charlie Worsham album are my favorite country albums of the year, which means they're among the best of the year.

I just love how every song takes its time.

I've only listened once, but each song had something that grabbed my attention

"Long Black Veil" is OK but she has spent the last eight years making the gesture redundant. I'd confine "Shine on Rainy Day," "Someone Else's Heartache," and "Take the Devil Out of Me" to b-sides.

I like Lee Ann Womack but "I Hope You Dance" would be on my worst songs list

well I'm only halfway through a first listen but so far so good!

the George Jones cover is a charmingly odd choice to end it with (I admit I skipped ahead to listen to that first)

this has some of those "hot shit electric guitarist showoff" moments that I always find interesting on modern country albums. the playing is much looser and rawer than the showboating country-rock guitar solos of previous eras.

not that the band is really the focus here - good country session musos know to always serve the song/performer - it's just interesting what they do with the moments where they step forward
