two weeks pass...

I was at one of my favorite pubs Saturday night (The Draught House, formerly The Draught Horse) where dogs are welcome to frolic in the parking lot, which is where most of the drinking happens anyway since there are picnic tables and not much room inside plus the indoor smoking ban and ANYWAY.

Yes, there are always several dogs enjoying a night out with their owners there, and pits are often seen as well. Last night, though, there was a sweet happy friendly pit INSIDE the bar. Standing in line for beer, and flirting with the customers by 'standing' on them and begging for pats, scratches, cheddar goldfish, pints of beer and basically anything she could get.

Any ilxor dog lovers who make it to Austin are cordially invited to FAP there, natch.

AMARILLO -- A miniature horse given to a boy with brain cancer by the Make-A-Wish Foundation was killed by a pair of pit bulls who were found roaming in his yard, authorities said.
The 31-inch tall horse, Anniversary, was donated by the foundation to 3-year-old Christian Vasquez in late August.
Christian, who was diagnosed in January with a malignant form of brain cancer, received a pull cart, a blanket, a halter and a bridle set from the foundation on Saturday, said Jelaine Workman, executive director for the foundation's Amarillo chapter.

Two days later, Anniversary was found dead on his property in Pampa by Christian's father, Raul Vasquez.
The father was nearly attacked by the dogs but managed to climb a tree and call 911 on his cell phone.
One of the dogs was captured by authorities and remains in custody at the Pampa animal pound, while the other escaped and remained on the loose, Gray County Sheriff Don Copeland said.
"I was scared to death," said Raul Vasquez, 41. "They killed Anniversary, and I thought they would kill me too."

It was unclear how the dogs entered the property, which is surrounded by a 4 1/2-foot-high fence.
Workman said the foundation won't be able to supply a second horse but was getting calls from residents who wanted to donate money for a new one.
Anniversary cost $1,300, and the foundation included free feed, training and veterinary care for a year in its gift.
"This horse was beautiful," Workman said. "It just makes me angry that people allow their dogs to run on the loose."

Carry on luggage must be able to fit under the seat or in the overhead compartment and be at least this adorable.

Cesar Millan done changed my opinion that some dogs are just inherently bad. Cesar is a dude.

You're not sorry.

kingfish, Friday, 18 January 2008 06:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Damned ear clippers! If the ears flopped like they're s'posedta, she (I'm guessing the big one is mom to the others) would be a lot less scary-looking.

i walked such a cute puppy (well, 11 months old) last night at the shelter. very vivacious, sweet personality. too skinny, but still insanely strong. i hope she finds a nice, firm, patient owner.

That white one looks like it'll grow up to be the spitting image of my brother's old dog, Brewster -- one of the sweetest dogs ever to walk the earth. Too bad he turned out to be a car-chaser on a road with a 55 mph speed limit -- RIP.

My girlfriend has a 6 month old pit puppy, he's the greatest. Nicest dog and wouldn't hurt a flea.

That's because you are an idiot.

Alex in SF, Friday, 8 February 2008 22:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Seriously they are dogs just like any other smart working dog. Just because they have the misfortune of having a lot of asshole owners doesn't mean they are "ugly" or "ill-tempered" or "dangerous". A good number of the sweetest and coolest dogs I've met have been pits.

Alex in SF, Friday, 8 February 2008 22:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, dude. My friend's pb, Peaches, is AWESOME. She's happiest with her head in your lap.

Dogs be dogs, yo. Treat 'em right, and they'll be good.

B.L.A.M., Tuesday, 6 May 2008 14:34 (fifteen years ago) link

You wouldn't think that would be so hard to understand. The Bad-Rap page has lots of the Vick dogs ready for adoption now, and even some of the ones covered with fight scars are listed as child-friendly, dog-friendly and cat-friendly.

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 14:37 (fifteen years ago) link

tho the most oblivious jerks do always seem to have these dogs capable of eating yr face in one bite - somewhat unsettling

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 14:39 (fifteen years ago) link

the other day at the basketball courts this girl had the cutest little gray pit puppy and she was being really awful to it - so gross - she and her friends were sitting right behind the basket when the ball bounce over towards them and this dude was like yo if that ball hits us one more time that its going over the fence - we were all you know yr sitting right next to a basketball court right - fucking people wtf

jhøshea, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 14:42 (fifteen years ago) link

There was a white pit mix running around loose with no collar in my neighborhood last week. I was carrying some groceries home and it walked up to me. Well, more like ambled. Anyway, after it sniffed my hand it brought me a stick.

TERRIFYING!

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 14:45 (fifteen years ago) link

It was about then a guy nearby called it home from his porch.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 14:46 (fifteen years ago) link

he prolly figured you wouldn't taste very good.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 15:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Or that you'd keep.

Banjo is having some issues with 2nd year bitchiness; she's taken to picking fights with like, one dog out of forty, for no reason that we can discern. Also, it's Spring and windows are open and she's barking more now. We're working on it with her.
Still cute as a goddamn button. I have a buncha pics to upload somewhere.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 19:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm horribly embarrassed by this, but it's fair estimate that we're spending upwards of seven hundred bucks a month on that fuckin' dog. Shoulda probably just adopted a kid.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 19:34 (fifteen years ago) link

$700?!?! Has it got horrible medical problems or something?

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 19:38 (fifteen years ago) link
