The System could auto fp the fools we’ve blocked

Seems like there would be plenty of reasons to block someone you didn't particularly care for that don't rise to bannable offenses. The point of blocking/killfiling is precisely that it is personal to oneself and tailors ILX to your own predilections. Banning is universal and affects all ILX.

Yeah to FP and ban people is pretty serious & really only extends to personal attacks, thread stalking, and obviously if they're being openly racist/homophobic/misogynistic/etc etc etc.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 18:37 (six years ago) link

I was going to say that people who post without actually engaging with others is the worst, but maybe the worst people just have every other poster killfiled

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 18:38 (six years ago) link

do you mean ignoring people or not engaging with people in good faith conversation?

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 18:39 (six years ago) link

Yeah to FP and ban people is pretty serious & really only extends to personal attacks, thread stalking, and obviously if they're being openly racist/homophobic/misogynistic/etc etc etc.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 18:56 (six years ago) link

"the Roger Waters of 9/11"

Not really sure what this means?

Terry Micawber (Tom D.), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:02 (six years ago) link

surely roger waters is the roger waters of 9/11

-_- (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:02 (six years ago) link

I now remember why I mostly avoid ILM
can we get quotes around the word "love" in the board name plz

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:06 (six years ago) link

Quotes around "music" also a fair request imo

Gary Synaesthesia (darraghmac), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:06 (six years ago) link

at least I got a new screen name out of this

the David Gilmour of 9/11 (DJP), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:08 (six years ago) link

this is the story: I accidentally posted something in the "unusual details in wikipedia articles" thread that was meant for the twin peaks thread. it was a detail about the building in the opening scene of the first episode not existing, and that someone had figured out the made up building was in the same spot as a church that was destroyed on 9/11, along with a very old Sycamore tree. just something to think about within the twin peaks thread. then Turrican said "Flappy bird is to 9/11 as Roger Waters is to WWII," because i guess he's read enough of my posts to figure out that I lived next to the Twin Towers when 9/11 happened and felt it was necessary to insult me apropos of nothing. Fuck him.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:10 (six years ago) link

DJP with all due respect it's really not funny

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:10 (six years ago) link

do you think he has a little counter on his screen where he gives himself points for being rude

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:11 (six years ago) link

xp. it's at least a little bit funny

-_- (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:11 (six years ago) link

knowing you actually lived there, what the ever-loving hell was T doing

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:11 (six years ago) link

i'm not sure T thinks he's engaging with real people.

i mean i hope not.

Pope Urban the Legend (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:12 (six years ago) link

"Flappy bird is to 9/11 as Roger Waters is to WWII,"

Right, I see, so you father died in 9/11.

Terry Micawber (Tom D.), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:13 (six years ago) link

being an annoying pedantic asshole is one thing but the 9/11 comment is so over the line & I really don't want that to become a joke because it's not funny and I'd really like to not have to read it in display names and shit, sorry if i'm being a downer

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:14 (six years ago) link

Is this better?

the Hannah Montana of the Korean War (DJP), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:18 (six years ago) link

none of my family died. i'd rather not get into it for obvious reasons.

jim & DJP- i really don't like that line or any reference to it because it was by far the most hurtful thing anyone has ever said to me on ILX. separate from 9/11 references, which obviously I have to deal with every day, it's a fact of life. i mean i'm not gonna FP you but i'd appreciate not having to read a display name that references a really fucking mean line directed at me

xp lol, yes. sorry for being a stick in the mud

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:19 (six years ago) link

tbh flappy i thought the way you changed your o.g. login name without making a fuss about it when some of us were having a go at you was v classy so

Pope Urban the Legend (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:21 (six years ago) link

fair's fair i meant to add

Pope Urban the Legend (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:22 (six years ago) link

sarahell, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:25 (six years ago) link

oh yeah, i mean i had no idea my old username was offensive outside the USA, as soon as someone said as much, it was only right to change it

xp no worries jim! love ya ;p

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:25 (six years ago) link

huh i have no idea what flappy's o.g. login name was.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:28 (six years ago) link

I'm really confused about this Roger Waters thing, tbh.

emil.y, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:30 (six years ago) link

yeah it doesn't make much sense to me, shd ban Turrican anyway

Pope Urban the Legend (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:31 (six years ago) link

musical hang-ups about history and fathers iirc

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:31 (six years ago) link

but in flappy's case it's weird projection and personal attacks

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:32 (six years ago) link

comparing someone to roger waters is way over the line imo

sleepingbag, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:32 (six years ago) link

otm

mh, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:32 (six years ago) link

I took it as "he brings up 9/11 and how it affected him as frequently as Roger Waters brings up WWII and how it affected him," which is something people have said to my family and me in the past so it was especially nasty and ignorant because dude knows nothing about me

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:33 (six years ago) link

total respect to you flappy bird, because I probably had a pop at your o.g. login and was probably very unnecessarily rude and tactless, such was my m.o. at the time and probably still is sometimes. Anyway you seem a million times better a poster than that unmentionable one.

calzino, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:34 (six years ago) link

proud of my part in this: no way sna

imago, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:35 (six years ago) link

Roger Waters' father was killed in WW2, later in life I think he might have wrote a few songs about this... or something. The implication being that flappy was somehow milking his personal connection/experience to 9/11 for... something or other.

Terry Micawber (Tom D.), Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:35 (six years ago) link

lol, calzino certainly did have a pop, if you follow my link there :D

imago, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 19:36 (six years ago) link

lol i forgot that it happened in the no way sna thread
