This album is not good. It is kitschy schmaltz of the worst kind. No tunes, only pathetic ballads. Only good for the waste bin.

Meaningless post.

i kinda agree. love jessie's personality, and ok the """confessional""" lyrics here, but miss the intimacy (and palette) of her earlier records. this is all very spotlit and vampy.

the best songs are def the ones people have highlighted - "domino" etc. but they lack the rare colour of light i got from songs like "12", "wildest moments", "110%" etc. reading laura's interview in the guardian, maybe what i liked best about Jessie's music was a sound imposed on her from without?

sean gramophone, Saturday, 21 October 2017 00:13 (six years ago) link

how is this any different?

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 21 October 2017 00:59 (six years ago) link

are you serious? there's tons of brass and shiny backing vocals and blah blah blah. something like "midnight" is at times halfway to benny and the jets

sean gramophone, Saturday, 21 October 2017 01:01 (six years ago) link

(benny and the jets is great! but it's big-show commercial pop music in a way that "110%" abjectly was not

sean gramophone, Saturday, 21 October 2017 01:03 (six years ago) link

To my ears the sonic imprints haven't changed except by infinitesimal degrees. Horns here or electric guitar run there don't signify anything significant.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 21 October 2017 01:10 (six years ago) link

devotion was a bit more groove-focused overall

ufo, Saturday, 21 October 2017 01:13 (six years ago) link

They all are but we're talking about degrees here. She's been consistent, eschewing "evolution," thank god. I can imagine getting bored of her, but that's me.

FYI, http://store.jessieware.com has signed copies of the regular, vinyl, and deluxe (+$2? No brainer there...) editions, plus litho and t-shirt packages (mostly L and under).

Heh, I didn't even realize this came out today (I thought it was still a few weeks away). Listening now and it's fantastic.

ware is one of the most solid artists around for quality deluxe versions

Week of Wonders (Ross), Saturday, 21 October 2017 21:05 (six years ago) link

not mad about this overall. I like "Finish What We Started" but nothing much else has stuck. "Your Domino" just seems like a less graceful version of "110%" to me

Number None, Sunday, 22 October 2017 19:41 (six years ago) link

I've been listsening all weekend -- am listening now -- and every time I'm ready to file it away as "This is nice, agreeable" I remember that I was walking around for a lot of 2015 going YOU WERE THE SWEETEST SWEETEST SONG and making Miguel's seal noises from "You and I, Forever."

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 22 October 2017 19:47 (six years ago) link

She's starting a podcast? Sure.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 2 November 2017 19:13 (six years ago) link

this is dull

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 2 November 2017 20:18 (six years ago) link

On the second car play of the album, and like it well enough. Disappointed that "ft. Paul Buchanan" is more of a drive-by than a duet, and surprised that he wasn't utilized more. Maybe there's a proper duet floating around out there?

I saw her live a few days ago for the third time and she's still killing it. she basically brought the house lights up every several songs to chat with the audience

at the show i went to, the woman in this video got brought up on stage during a song break after jessie saw her kind of grooving out dancing in the back doing her own thing. apparently she didn't even know jessie's music before the show and just came with her mom or aunt and friends and was just really feeling it.

Speaking of the track, the singer said, “’Overtime’ is a taste of what’s to come. It’s been really fun being back in the studio and I’m so excited to share this track. I worked on it with some of my favourite producers; James Ford & the guys of Bicep. It feels like I’m going back to my early days; it’s a late night song to flirt to. Whilst I carry on working on new music, I hope you really enjoy this one.”

Jessie Ware and Bicep is a great combo.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:13 (five years ago) link

Oh this is just fantastic. This is exactly the direction she should be going in right now.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:20 (five years ago) link

i just picked up a vinyl copy of Glasshouse for $9, good timing.

omar little, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:54 (five years ago) link

wow can we get a whole Jessie Ware & Bicep album

ufo, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:59 (five years ago) link

this is really good - the slightness of the production gives her so much space to command, there's a genericness that in lesser hands would be anonymous rather than formularic impressiveness, the point where a template becomes a model

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:17 (five years ago) link

fucking love jessie ware

she is also super hilarious

montoya (Ross), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:54 (five years ago) link

it's fine but i'm not seeing it as the revelation y'all are

dyl, Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:40 (five years ago) link

i don't recall enjoying anything from her last project tho so maybe i've just fallen out of love

dyl, Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:40 (five years ago) link

it's just a delight to finally get an Imagine It Was Us sequel

ufo, Thursday, 4 October 2018 03:53 (five years ago) link

this is good

Glasshouse was great

niels, Thursday, 4 October 2018 06:33 (five years ago) link

I've loved all three of her albums, but ever since "Imagine It Was Us" I've been ready for her to release her version of Overpowered. Maybe this time I'll get it.

monotony, Thursday, 4 October 2018 12:54 (five years ago) link

Glasshouseis her worst. I only kept "Your Domino."

You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 4 October 2018 12:57 (five years ago) link

you were perhaps just expecting something else from her

it's my fave

niels, Thursday, 4 October 2018 14:09 (five years ago) link

just as lex informed me after i wrote my review of it, obviously it's bad and sucks and i was wrong

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 14:13 (five years ago) link

j/k

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 October 2018 14:13 (five years ago) link

Glasshouse is her weakest but it's still good, just not a perfect album like Devotion

ufo, Thursday, 4 October 2018 14:22 (five years ago) link

She's announced she's pregnant again (!) on instagram so whatever the next project is it might still be a while away.
