Misdirected emails

Huge, and I mean huge email sent to my government name about genealogy. She goes through this particular bloodline path from the Old World to the New World, solicits all of us for DNA samples, provides some reading material, etc.
Not only am I not a relative of hers, my last name isn't brought up once in the whole email.

But she does end it with this:

I have a story that my mother would not like me to tell that I'm going to tell because I think it illustrates perfectly how genealogical research can throw light on ordinary things in our lives which we never would have understood otherwise. In fact, Mama really wouldn't want me to tell it, now that I think of it.

When I was a very little girl, my mother seemed unduly concerned with the operation of my bowels, particularly if I had a cold with a fever or one of my regular bouts of tonsillitis. If they had not been properly active, she would grow seriously concerned. Generally, the case was hopeless for me. She would put a towel down on our bathroom floor, bend me over on it, pink rump in air, and administer an enema, all the time saying, "We don't want you to get locked bowels, do we? People die from locked bowels." On and on about "locked bowels," no matter how I protested the indignity and suffering being imposed on me. I could not beg or cry loudly enough to preclude or shorten the dreaded remedy. Our pediatrician recommended this treatment to lower high fevers, but high fevers were not required for Mama. Even low fevers would do.

Later, Margaret and I used to laugh about the malady. Somebody would die and adults wouldn't know the cause, and we would look at one another and laugh, "Locked bowels, no doubt."

Well, in my early research, I discovered the newspaper write-up of my great-grandfather Williams' death in a Jackson MS Clarion-Ledger. You're right: 'locked bowels." Written in black and white. He had been sent to a hospital in Jackson, to no avail. And that was where my mother's fear of the problem and all my infant suffering arose!

Why do people send these things to me?

If I ever die from locked bowels, please keep any reporters from the Clarion-Ledger away from my bedside.

Haahaha holy shit. I think replying to that one with "hi, I have no idea who you are and why you sent this to me" would yield spectacular results. Who the fuck announces shit like that to groups of people?

sorry, that I needed such a long time for writing you. I hope you are fine and that you have had a good return to Canada. It was a pity, that we didn’t meet again in Barcelona.

I spent there two days, visisted the Dali’s Theatre and then I got back to my brother in France, where I spent another 5 and a half weeks and took my time to think about all the experiences I made on the camino. I thank you very much for everything you told me and I think a lot of you and the time we spent together.

On July, 14 I returned to Germany and met nearly all the people I missed so much. One of them surely was Achim, the man I told you of. We are a pair since the beginning of August and it is much more beautiful then I expected it to be. Now I can enjoy it to be a woman… Sometimes it is very difficult for me to deal with this relation, but I think we will find a good way.

Since the beginning of Octobre I have a new flat of my own and I am so grateful for this new independance after more than a half year of beeing guest all the time… I enjoy it very much and I am very conscious about all the good things that happen in my life. Now I try to find a new work. I would like to do some social work and give all my personal abilities to other people.

What’s about you? Did you find a good ending of the camino with Ross? Are you still friends? I hope you are lucky too and that the camino gave you all the answers you needed and that the time in Spain will always be a good memory for your life.

It is a great gift for me that I met you and perhaps we will find a possibility to meet us again. It would be a pleasure for me. If you like, it would be nice, if you could give me your private e-mail-adress, because I don’t use Facebook.

I’m typing this up at a closing. I will be tied up until 6 and then I have dinner with my wife. So we can chat tomorrow.

I spoke with Jim last night. I would describe him as on his last rope. It is hard for him to understand your difficulty in pulling the switch on the purchase. I did not tell him anything about your thoughts on how to do the deal. I think that’s a non-starter.

I can probably get him to agree to the $300k full standby note. But that’s not assured. My thoughts on the salary are to pay him $7,500 a month for 4 months and see what you need from him after that. Give him a commission and the training fees on an ongoing basis. That doesn’t short-change his value and it doesn’t obligate you to pay him more than $30k. So you each get what you want.

You’ll have to settle with a right-of-set off on the Note. He’s not going to agree to any escrows. And he’ll leave behind $40k of cash in the business and take the A/R. That’s sufficient to run the business plus the bank will fund you some Working Capital as part of the loan. Typically $50k. They make you take it. So you’ll have plenty of cash to operate. He’s not leaving $40k and the A/R.

He is not going to send you the QB file or anything else. You spoke with Pam for an hour. A/R fluctuates from $30k to maybe $80k. Depends on the client and the sales.

Jim feels that there comes a time where you have to make a decision. Are you ready to take the next step and be a business owner? That time is now. Time is running out. He’s expecting this thing to be closing soon or he’s going to have to move on. He’s making himself $500k a year and the business is growing. He’s not happy with the $1.5 mil price but he’ll take it if you can move on it.

So I don’t think a coffee chat will help. He’s looking for action. Not discussion. You know all there is to know about Tokay and you know what you want to do with the business. Now”s the time. Owning a business is hard. I get that. That’s why I sell them and don’t operate them.

You’ve spent a long time on this and have gotten the price and terms down to a very reasonable level. You’ve got the financing in place. This is the moment of truth. Make it happen.

I've been seeing these ads on Instagram for a hotel called GOLDSBORO BASE. Curiosity finally got to me – Where the hell is this place? I've never heard of it. And in typical Instagram fashion, there was no street address given inside the ad.

Went online and it's in Goldsboro, N.C. OK? That's 1,000 miles away from me. Why am I being targeted by these ads?

I rarely go on Facebook anymore, but had to yesterday at work. My login email is the same one I used to use for ILX, back when my name started with Pleasant instead of just 'P'. And that's when I went hold up.

Thing that weirds me out is that I use a whole 'nother email and username on Instagram than I have for FB. But Insta being FB's cool toy to use however it sees fit, they must also be exchanging data with each other.

I can't confirm it, it's the only thing I can come up with to connect it. Because how come I'm not getting invitations from hotels in Staten Island?

Anyway. The kicker to all this is, since I did all that "research," now wherever I go online, there's a GOLDSBORO BASE ad just waiting for me.

The link to the misdirected email makes me think that the person who sent you that uploaded their contacts to Facebook (which a lot of companies do) but obviouslf gss the wrong contact info for you and if he’s got clients in the area it’s matched you with the information it’s got on those people. There are things occasionally where therapists have uploaded their contact books to Facebook and clients suddenly get recommended “randoms” in people you may know who are also fellow clients.
