after listening to this stuff for the past week or two I gotta admit I think most of those Revenge edits are pretty pointless. the original Rene & Angela is about 1000x better than their version. the exception is the Eagles one, that's pretty sweet (reminds me of the Tiedye dub of Tom Petty)

dmr, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 01:52 (fourteen years ago) link

best thing about disco edits is that they can turn a piece of shit like "love you inside out" into the greatest song ever.

isn't the eagle one sorta a mashup of the eagles and buffalo stance?

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 02:15 (fourteen years ago) link

i think me being an earnest tom petty fan has kept me from checking out the "don't come around here no more" edit (a song i loathe in the first place) but i remember someone on ilx "threatening" to unleash their edit of "you got lucky" a year or so ago and i would sure like to hear that.

ok, i haven't heard the edit, but if this is such a piece of shit, how can performing a re-edit magically turn it into the greatest song ever? is it the vocals that need to be removed? drums ? everything? this ventures into the weird in-between re-edits --> dub ---> remix discussion which i think happened already but whatever. i am drunk btw

seperates the wheat from the chaff. there are some really cheesy moments on the original

vs

(jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 04:43 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah ok i'm just trying to level out the hyperbole

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 06:06 (fourteen years ago) link

so is there an edit of "lowdown" that just extends the intro and removes the "cheezy" bridge yet?

QE II, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 06:08 (fourteen years ago) link

I wrote this last year attempting to explain the Bee Gees re-edit's appeal: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/its-a-hit/Content?oid=643670. Basically, he swamps the thing in so much echo, isolates so many appealing musical aspects (the flecking wah-wah guitar, string zings, a clomping beat he doubles with a machine), and reshapes everything. The original is melba toast; the re-edit is the E hitting.

Glad you all like that mix, it's so well done, been playing it so much since the weather's got good.

Local Garda, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 09:00 (fourteen years ago) link

The Revenge's recent mix for Beats In Space is great too.

Anyone have his "Funk On A Whole Nu Level" track handy? Is a Warren G Regulate re-edit, can't find it anywhere (he posted it on the ooft blog ages ago but I missed it)

this is like when u sent me the careless whisper edit w/out the sax and i said "man i love the sax on this song" and the same time where you said "this great edit removes the cheesy sax"

they were OK--mcdonalds--made right there so a little bit hot at first. dunno im not usually a big mickey ds fries fan but these were better than usual, properly crispy, not overly salty.

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 14:42 (fourteen years ago) link

must check those out, thanks.

Local Garda, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 14:46 (fourteen years ago) link

it was the mcd's on canal street near lafayette--the one with the sign in chinese lettering

i like to just trim the middle bits out of my fries and piece together the ends. addition by subtraction.

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 14:56 (fourteen years ago) link

i add echo effects to my fries

i can't help but wonder as i eat fries, "will i be enjoying these fries in 10 years time?"

Local Garda, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm always looking to see what else i have to go with my fries. sometimes i just arrange all the starch and mix 'n' match until something has that flava.

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:42 (fourteen years ago) link

not feelin the "funk on a whole nu level" track. maybe the original doesn't need an edit, but seems like it's a no brainer that a michael mcdonald loop would be amazing. wasted opportunity, imo

i am the eye in the sky... (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:37 (fourteen years ago) link

I agree. I was not stoked on that remix. The 'Jamming' mix with the Michael McDonald chorus left intact is the best mix in my opinion.

hopefully if they are somehow contaminated with tape worms, the answer to that will be "no" but somehow i bet we're not that lucky.

i hope you get tapeworms on your bank holiday

speaking of parasites, i think it's great that Ronan likes this kind of music now. good for him!

ronans dj name is actually "dj parasite"

sorry you dont have in-n-out, whose fries are made from potatoes they slice right there in front of you by religious people... mmmmmm tasty

pipecock what are you favorite fries?

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:38 (fourteen years ago) link

best fries ever are both pgh spots: The O and the fries at the Potato Patch stands at Kennywood. classic.

pipecock, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:57 (fourteen years ago) link

my understanding is that those are pale, soulless ripoffs of better fries made by black guys in detroit

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:59 (fourteen years ago) link

your understanding would be wrong. if you want to question the O's black cred, i strongly suggest you go there on a friday night around 1am and do so outloud.

pipecock, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 20:03 (fourteen years ago) link

goddamnit do i want some in n out right now. cept you gotta spring for the animal style fries... http://d0.biggestmenu.com/00/00/a7/7c8a4ae0da7d4bf3_m.jpg
