the gingered kombucha in 20 oz aluminum cans is basically beer and making it super easy for me to cheat on being 100% sober

surely it's got be like less than 1% abv though?

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 17 October 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link

it doesn't feel like it!

map, Tuesday, 17 October 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link

ok it's 16 oz not 20 oz. it's gotta be less than .5% but it's the only kombucha i've had that legiit gives me a buzz.

Dinner last night was Braised Beef Roast and Country Potatoes with Haricots Verts & Wild Mushrooms. No5h the beef and potatoes were good and I'd get them again. Portion-wise, the beef was just barely enough for two adults and one teen.

the newer, larger quiche is better than the old quiches

are joe-joes rebranded newman-Os? oreos are a very vexing cookie.

whoa the frozen bibimbap bowl is GREAT!!

the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 19 October 2017 14:30 (six years ago) link

Picked up the Panama Boquete coffee yesterday. I don't usually like TJ's coffees, but have liked all the Panamas I've had from local roasters. I'm excited to try it once I get through my current beans.

naus, Sunday, 22 October 2017 19:20 (six years ago) link

My TJs (I go about once every three months so "my" is pushing it) did not have frozen bibimbap. I did see a TJs cultured salted butter which is pretty good (for table butter, I wouldn't cook with it). Cheap flowers is the raison d'etre for TJs in my life. And cheap avocados.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Sunday, 22 October 2017 23:00 (six years ago) link

I avoid the avocados in the mesh sack as they never ripen at the same time, which is necessary for guacamole-making occasions. I usually get the same things (frozen pizzas, vegetable gyoza, Dr. Bronner's for $11.99, etc.), but yesterday I got a few things I don't normally buy and ended up spending too much in the process. I did notice they have a Habanero Ghost Pepper Salsa, and bought that. Less heat than I would have expected, but the roasted chiles gave it a nice flavor.

naus, Sunday, 22 October 2017 23:11 (six years ago) link

Huh my avocados in sack always ripen at the same time (or close enough)--one day hard, the next day medium ripe, two days after that dead ripe. I move 'em to the fridge between medium an dead ripe; they hold for a couple of days that way.

three weeks pass...

the #1 all-time TJ MVP has to be their squash...they price it each instead of per pound so it's about 80% cheaper than any other grocery store

Rosemary Marcona Almonds. Addictive.

Chile Lime Seasoning Blend. I eat it straight. Or put it on cantaloupe.

Jeff, Wednesday, 15 November 2017 11:35 (six years ago) link

tajin (which is what tj's knocked off) and jicama slices is one of my favorite snacks

musically, Friday, 17 November 2017 18:51 (six years ago) link

OK Trader Joe's, I probably shouldn't have made a quesadilla the size of a dinner plate with your Soy Cheese Blend without some experimental nibbling first, so this horrible gas pain is technically my fault.

The Fortnightly Intruder (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 19 November 2017 11:31 (six years ago) link

Have they ditched the lemur tea?

JoeStork, Friday, 1 December 2017 01:49 (six years ago) link

I have gotten food poisoning from TJs no less than four times. Their fake cheese was def. the latest culprit. I no longer shop there.

rb (soda), Friday, 1 December 2017 02:57 (six years ago) link

two weeks pass...

The yellow jackfruit curry with jasmine rice is the best frozen vegan entree I've had. Heavy on the coconut milk, so not everyday fare, and pretty mild, so I add cayenne. $2.79.

The Everything Bagel seasoning is on point.

Yerac, Sunday, 17 December 2017 14:25 (six years ago) link

it’s definitely on my best of 2017 list

maura, Sunday, 17 December 2017 16:14 (six years ago) link

What do you guys use it for?

The Fortnightly Intruder (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 01:09 (six years ago) link

Are you hot-rodding your everything bagels?

The Fortnightly Intruder (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 01:09 (six years ago) link

I can't get everything bagels where I am, so I put them on the cream cheese or spread of plain bagels. I also like it on tomatoes, avocados or to add some texture to salads. Also it's decent as a whack furikake when I make the rice for sushi or poke.

Yerac, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 01:18 (six years ago) link

I am very sad because I ran out. This is the stuff I usually get at Trader Joe's to take when I am out of the country.
Pink Himalayan Salt
Green Dragon Sauce
Brown Rice Pasta
Rice Crackers
Everything Bagel seasoning
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Cowboy Bark

Yerac, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 01:22 (six years ago) link

Oh man, and I always stock up on a dozen boxes of the red fox tea if I can hit a TJ at the right time.

Yerac, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 01:25 (six years ago) link

yeah i use the everything seasoning because no one else in my family likes everything bagels, so i use it to everythingize the plain bagels we get. it's also pretty good in scrambled eggs.

na (NA), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 15:25 (six years ago) link

I'm giving my family so much TJs stuff as presents (since they don't live near one). Their caramel corn/Cracker Jacks knock-off product is outstanding, as are their gluten-free chocolate cupcakes, which are basically the only pastry I can have these days.

And I don't know what it is about their almond milk but it is just miles away THE BEST, compared to all other supermarket brands. If it's a mainstream product just repackaged with TJs boxes, I wish I could figure out what one it is, because the supermarket ones are all slightly tinted water comparatively.

everything but the bagel is really good on popcorn

maura, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 18:14 (six years ago) link

one month passes...

Is everything but the bagel still available? I went to tjs a week ago and they didn't have it, was too rushed to ask someone there to look it up for me. It's amazing on avocado toast...

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 14 February 2018 21:33 (six years ago) link

i didn't want to like them because they tasted like cold dead fries but somehow i gave in. three bags later, i wonder if i can make them myself in a dehydrator ;_;

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 14 February 2018 21:39 (six years ago) link

Strong suspicion the Trader Joes are rebranded Calbee. They are offloading the bacon & cheddar version at dollar stores.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 14 February 2018 21:47 (six years ago) link

My woke girlfriend just got a tattoo of a spoon. I showed a photo of it to a friend. And then today the friend sent me a photo of a Trader Joe's bag, and the tattoo is indeed a replica of the TJ spoon.

That's all I got.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 14 February 2018 22:31 (six years ago) link

what does your non-woke girlfriend have a tattoo of?

mh, Wednesday, 14 February 2018 22:33 (six years ago) link

seriously though i can't imagine getting a tattoo and then realizing it was on a grocery bag
i hope she is taking it ok!!

twist ending: the grocery bag design is based on her tattoo

trader joe’s has rebranded rp’s fettuccine for those of you who are gluten free and miss fresh pasta. it’s very good and stored with all the other fresh pasta

maura, Thursday, 15 February 2018 15:05 (six years ago) link

It's a little nuts that Trader Joe's never has a decent soy yogurt.

Yerac, Thursday, 15 February 2018 15:27 (six years ago) link

tj's is a fucking lifesaver in the boonies, that's all i know. i'm into the mushroom fettuccini with grilled lemon chicken mixed in.

The times they are a changing, perhaps (map), Thursday, 15 February 2018 17:40 (six years ago) link

TJ's is not great for dairy-free. Had a convo with a lactose intolerant TJ's employee about it when I was attempting a dairy free, several course Indian meal.

I was at a friend's house today and friend brought out the TJ french fry spud snacks and Mrs. Broccoli immediately wondered if they were rebranded Calbee crisps... Good to check in on this thread and confirm some suspicions.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 19 February 2018 05:11 (six years ago) link

I ran out of everything but the bagel and won't be able to get to a TJ"s for a bit. I've had to try to make my own and I just can't get it right.

Yerac, Monday, 19 February 2018 13:47 (six years ago) link

buy the bagels and shake em over your food
