Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 16 October 2017 22:46 (six years ago) link

at the time I had the distinct impression that the show was def trying to launch his music career, a bid for cross-platform brand synergies blah blah blah

So basically, "The Heights 2.0"?

so wtf we got to the Flaming Lips episode and their scene was edited out! I also noticed that the episode with Jade was missing, as was the episode with Color Me Badd. I assume Hulu must have some problem securing the music rights...? So fucking lame.

I have reached the end. In the season 5 finale Kelly *almost* becomes a lesbian, Steve hits on a transvestite, Brandon makes out with Valerie, Ray pushes Donna down the stairs, and Dylan gets dangled out of a funicular by a mobster. Everything has become so ridiculous *all the time* I'm now inclined to accept Alfred's initial estimation that after the first 2 seasons any semblance of recognizable teenage reality began to be eroded in favor of silly soap opera hijinks.

Dylan's past-life regressions were p funny tho. I think I liked "Hobo Dylan" the best.

Wife and I did a complete re-watch a few years back and I remember being pleasantly surprised by the second-to-last season, whichever one that is. If memory serves, Valerie puts the show on her back and carries it. Don’t give up yet!

my wife has soldiered on to season 6 w out me (she claims she will only watch it until Donna loses her virginity lol), I can't take it anymore

The six-episode "event series" will see original stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling play heightened versions of themselves shopping a reboot of, what else: 'Beverly Hills, 90210.'

The new 90210 is described as irreverent and is inspired by the six original stars' real lives and relationships.

five months pass...

I'm bummed this new miniseries is a meta-faux-reality TV thing and not, like, a proper reunion of the fictional characters "in-universe".

That actress is Lainie Kazan!

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 22:36 (four years ago) link

holy shit

Her popularity increasing, Kazan posed nude for the October 1970 issue of Playboy, which was reused in Pocket Playboy #4, issued in 1974. Her appearance in the magazine opened the door for her to headline at, and operate, two different Playboy Jazz Clubs. Overseen by Hugh Hefner himself, the clubs were called "Lainie’s Room West" and "Lainie's Room East," each on opposite coasts, with the first one located in Los Angeles and the other in Manhattan. Her Playboy photographs inspired the look of Jack Kirby’s DC Comics superheroine, Big Barda.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 22:37 (four years ago) link

She’s also only 21 years older than Gabrielle Carteris.
