Watched this last night. It was pretty good, but I guess I was mildly disappointed. How many times did they play "You're The Best"? Like twelve? Also, enough with the line graph animation. They used it like a million billion times.

this movie ruled

the crazy thing about billy mitchell is he's like the only alpha male in the entire retrogaming subculture so he can just completely dominate and cow everyone else involved.

this was on my top ten of the year

AVC: What if I sent you a copy of the movie, and you watched it and then we could chat after that? And you could directly address some things…

BM: You can't send me a copy of the movie. Number one, it's not out on DVD [Editor's note: This interview was conducted before the film's recent DVD release.], so what you got, you can't send to me. I could have gotten it a long time ago illegally. And I'm not gonna do that. But I think you're gonna have a hard time believing the fact that I kinda know everything about the movie, since every day I open my computer and reviews are forwarded to me, including video clips and all that. Plus, I got a good memory.

I guess he did the BBS documentary. Huh. I think I exchanged a few emails with him many years ago when he was putting that thing together.

multiple xposts but i think i used to have a damned good score relative to the twin galaxies range @ gameboy tetris too!

anyway mostly this makes me want to somehow be recognized for how hard i would wreck anyone at nhl '94 for sega. we used to play it as a drinking game in lol college

johnny crunch, Friday, 15 February 2008 00:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Is Billy wearing eyeliner? Is he wearing teethliner??

JimD, Friday, 15 February 2008 01:30 (sixteen years ago) link

If he never washed, and he shaved, he would look like Nick Cave (but with patriotic ties).

Abbott, Friday, 15 February 2008 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

some of wiebe's meathead friends in WA were awesome. "i told him not to get chumpitized and to go out east"

johnny crunch, Friday, 15 February 2008 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, I just realize Billy Mitchell has a bottle of his own hot sauce on the podium. I understand the urge to show everyone your hot sauce, but c'mon - leave it in the cabinet.

Z S, Friday, 15 February 2008 20:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Billy's passion for hot sauce is actually his most endearing characteristic, to me.

Jordan, Friday, 15 February 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Billy should play the bad guy in the new Tron film, just to stir shit up.

Ste, Saturday, 16 February 2008 21:17 (sixteen years ago) link

it would be awesome if he took little sips of hot sauce in between sentences

this movie was so good

Did anyone see the South Park about whether Bono or Stan's dad had taken the biggest crap? Was this supposed to be a play on King of Kong?

Abbott, Thursday, 21 August 2008 23:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought it was just a big piss take of Bono

Ste, Friday, 22 August 2008 09:11 (fifteen years ago) link

well i'll be damned

Ste, Friday, 22 August 2008 12:36 (fifteen years ago) link

So the new episode of South Park is clearly meant to be a sort of homage to this film, but instead comes off as a sort of half-hearted poop-is-funny rip-off.
Discus.

ah sorry, you should have been more descriptive with the episode - but I kinda agree with you if that helps.

Ste, Friday, 22 August 2008 14:35 (fifteen years ago) link

That was the last episode of South Park I watched; quality seems to have finally fallen off.

It is a great and entertaining movie, but there do seem to be a lot of falsehoods in it in order to make the plot more cinematic, by many accounts.

Nhex, Monday, 24 November 2008 10:49 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, and unfortunately ever since i found that out it's sorta ruined it for me.

A girl I work with made herself a FUCK BILLY MITCHELL tshirt. I tried to steal it but it is too tiny for my gigantic shoulders.

Watched Chasing Ghosts last night. It makes Walter Day seem even creepier than he does in Kong.

There's one point where he bags up his referee shirt and sends it to the Smithsonian for its "gaming collection", followed by a caption that the Smithsonian doesn't have a "gaming collection".

James Mitchell, Sunday, 25 January 2009 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

lolllll

s1ocki, Sunday, 25 January 2009 16:18 (fifteen years ago) link

and then there's the whole Robert Mruczek part! that guy could be a long-lost Crumb brother.

jamescobo, Sunday, 25 January 2009 23:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Watching Chasing Ghosts right now, proof that King of Kong is 1000x better without whining crying-ass Steve Wiebe. This 1982 summit is as close as we'll ever get to a real life McPoyle family reunion.
