12 Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle (Lucky Number, 2005)

I've been listening to the music on this thread almost exclusivley for the last three days, giving this ^^^ a spin for ther first time in a year or so just this morning. shortly after listening to it, i left my house and went to my favorite coffe shop and it came on the sound system as i was leaving! kind of weird since that shop usually plays very quiet, anonymous jazz or korean pop music all the time.

I'm helping my family put together some songs to play at my brother's engagement party, and fittingly enough "La Ritournelle" was the first to receive the seal of approval.

I've been following these guys via myspace for over a year. looks like they're getting an Eskimo release.

I guess maybe they fall in the middle of the venn diagram with Cosmic/Beardo/Edits on one side and Balearic/Revivial/Bands on the other.

Anyone know anything else about them?

Speaking of Cure remixes, I'm listening to the relatively obscure "Let's go to Bed (milk mix)" and it would totally fit on a balearic mix. I think Saint Etienne's "Like a Motorway" would sit in there pretty well.

man, that tullio di piscopo track is fantastic. i bought it (on ZYX) at SF's groove merchant years ago, and played the shit out of it when i used to have a downtempoish sunday night weekly at dalva. don cherry plays on it!

Goddamit. I'm working on a mix right now that I was planning on closing with "in the light of the miracle."

I already did it for a compilation I made which very few have heard, so now I feel unfairly cheated - however I used the Another Thought version and this one is different, not sure where it's from.

There's the 13 minute dancey version on the Soul Jazz Russell comp.

Yeah I think it's that one. I really should get around to buying that comp!

i grabbed that Sorcerer album. i really like it, but i think it coulda been better had he used more live instruments or analog equipment. it kinda suffers from a computer smoothness. (this is the same complaint i got from a friend when making music a few years ago on Reason)

xpost - i read that blog, as it's in my rss feeds, but i gotta say, i don't really get the love for the edits so much. there was one recently of that Voyage "I Love You Dancer" track by Rune Lindbæk that just didn't make any sense. he really didn't do anything to the track besides add echo to a few parts. why not just play the original?

hey have you guys heard what i'm gushing over here.

I like both LSB singles a bunch, but it's weird how they both seem to revolve around "Some Girls" by Michael Heart. "Original Highway Delight" blatantly samples it, and "FOG" seems to sample something very similar sounding.

The LSB italo edits were just released too, nothing too essential but I do like the P. Lion one.

the newish Detroit Beatdown Vol 2 ep is like balearic detroit-- really smooth synths, lots of congas, good shit. definitely my best recent purchase!

finally listening to that Diepvries mix.

pretty great in the middle from the max essa track to the mudd and pollard one.

detroit balearic sounds very funny. "this one goes out to all my oppressed brothers who couldn't catch the sunset today."

The Alton Miller "Souls like mine" album from this year is pretty good.

by Detroit Balearic, i mean it has the synths and feel of detroit techno/hi-tech jazz, but the BPMs are slower, the samples jazzier, the vibe more 'chill.' really quite nice.

it was a stupid irreverent joke! this is the internets though, so i deserve what i get. i guess it was just my kneejerk reaction to seeing the balearic adjective applied to yet another style.

I wouldn't worry about it too much Michael, the idea of the Beatdown guys being Balearic is just plain silly.
