'Rotterdam Termination Source' are back, joining forces with 'Human Resource' to respark a new wave of Hardcore Old Skool. After a successful comeback appearence on Oct 4th in Zaandam, Holland, Maurice Steenbergen (RTS), Guido Pernet (HR) these forces have united to revive the still existant old skool scene. Along with 'T99' Vocalist Zeno Zevenbergen this looks like a unstoppable team ready to 'Dominate the World' once more

That's like the ultimate dream team!

"Poinginatorthesia" coming soon...

me and Lawrence Denim trying to outdo each other in praise of this record's brilliance.
-- Momus (nic...), January 11th, 2006.

Where?

It was in my friend Douglas Benford's car, heading south down Great Portland Street, I believe. Lawrence was keen to incorporate some novelty sounds in the second Denim album.

Fans of this should seriously check out Tok Tok's Tora Bora -- similar levels of tweaked-out cartoon poinginess, and really only slightly less single-minded about it.

I mean, look at the cover:

Oh sod it, why not...

The most interesting pieces of pop music trivia that you know (that are 100% false):

127. In a disused warehouse on the outskirts of Hilversum, 75 people are still dancing to "Poing" by the Rotterdam Termination Squad.

They did a follow up single (they took their time) which I remember had a track that was a strop against 2 Unlimited's "No Limit" which had elements of "Poing" in it.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:29 (eighteen years ago) link

"Merry X-Mess" that was it.

There's quite a few versions of "Poing".

The one under the YSI-link seems... funkier than the one I played incessantly summer of 1992. I think the 'Stuiterhouse' version is the one to get.

naranjito (Koens), Thursday, 12 January 2006 12:44 (eighteen years ago) link

So I did some research and concluded: "Poing" counts exactly 265 poings. Defend/Refute.

(Sorry, that link should have been this. Or check the discogs page.

The best part is the breakdown where it goes POOOING POOOING POOOING POOOING POOOING POOOING POOOING POOOING at half-tempo, then revs back up.
yes, easily the best bit.

Let's not forget 'Here's Johnny' by Hocus Pocus, which got to number 1 in Australia round the same time. It was a great era for novelty rave productions.

Not only that, but MTV Europe played it all the time during prime time. Can you imagine MTV playing anything like that today? (Supposing that they'd still play music videos, of course.)

They totally would, considering they're happily playlisting the shit out of Boten Anna and Gunther.

Their band shot had like five people in it, as I recall. I mean, really? There shouldn't even have been any humans in the band shot. Just a smiley face on a spring.

you posted the band pic five years ago!
