Seriously though, in what ultraviolent, hypersexualised nightmare environment is 'hit' slang for having sex with someone?

N, this is hip-hop. Hip-hop, this is N. Play nice.

I prefer the term "smoke dat ass" myself.

I am so naive. I thought it was all just about hitting people.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:07 (nineteen years ago) link

(If you want a full etymology, I think "hit it" grew out of the booty call syndrome; to "hit" someone really means to call them (mainstream example: "Hit Me Baby One More Time") and since a booty call is calling someone up at night for sex, I think the one slang term blended into the other.)

That one's pretty good. I am a bigger fan of "tap dat ass."

nickn (nickn), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't find any reference to property damage on the 'Net; how badly was the 5.0 area hit?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:12 (nineteen years ago) link

to "hit" someone really means to call them (mainstream example: "Hit Me Baby One More Time")

WTF! I seriously thought she was singing about wanting to be actually hit. I always thought it was an odd song topic.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:13 (nineteen years ago) link

i think the 5.0 area was in the ocean. i doubt there's any damage anywhere.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I did actually know about the booty call thing. I just didn't realise it had mutated into just meaning fucking.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

damage was extensive in some areas

I have a friend who moved into the CSUN on-campus faculty housing late in the night before the Northridge quake. The quake happened on a govt. holiday (MLK, Jr.) at about 5 in the morning. All he had done was pile his boxes around his boxspring/mattress on the floor with no frame. He said he woke up thrown to the floor and the boxes were flying in both directions all across the room above, and then on top of him.

I'm waiting for the next SF Quake so I can buy a place when all the lilly livered flatlanders get the hell out of dodge.

Definitely felt the Baja one here in South OC. Shook for a good 10 seconds, it felt like.

But alas, another teaser. I've been anticipating the "big one" my whole life.

Any other East Bay people awake? I swear that was right underneath our house.

Also we just called the cops on a drunk guy trying to break in to the place next door. I probably wouldn't have heard him if the tremor didn't wake me up. It's 5AM!
