Am I the only one for whom zing crashes after viewing a post? And thanks stet!
― brimstead, Thursday, 5 October 2017 18:25 (six years ago) link
I get that crash too ... I can read threads, but if I click on an individual post, then try to go back to the thread, the app quits. This has been going on for a while and still occurs with the latest version of zing. I attributed the problem to the antiquity of my 4s, which can't run any iOS later than 9.3.5, but maybe it's more general?
Also: thanks, stet!
― Brad C., Thursday, 5 October 2017 18:37 (six years ago) link
does not happen to me on SE
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:06 (six years ago) link
Hmm, that’s weird. What phone do you have, brimstead? And what OS?
― stet, Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:07 (six years ago) link
(Thanks everybody!)
That crash happens to me on my iPhone 5 but not on my later phone
― harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:35 (six years ago) link
Is it on iOS 9 or 10?
― stet, Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:38 (six years ago) link
My 5 is on the last one it was allowed (10.3.3 iirc)
― harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:40 (six years ago) link
I had the same bug on my 5 but not on my new SE
― droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 5 October 2017 22:40 (six years ago) link
Yes I should add I am on an SE right now and no crashing.
― harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 5 October 2017 22:44 (six years ago) link
Now to try and rustle up a real 5 — you can’t even simulate one in the current Xcode
― stet, Friday, 6 October 2017 00:06 (six years ago) link
I might be done with mine now that I have an SE Unless I decide to turn it into a webcam for my bird or something
― harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Friday, 6 October 2017 00:07 (six years ago) link
i'm on a 5c running OS 10
i should probably just get with the program and buy a fancy new phone. *ugh*
― brimstead, Friday, 6 October 2017 00:11 (six years ago) link
I have no complaints, I've bought Zing twice now, would buy again
― El Tomboto, Friday, 6 October 2017 00:59 (six years ago) link
the < button seems a little less sensitive in the new version but I blame Apple for that, stet remains supreme
― El Tomboto, Friday, 6 October 2017 01:00 (six years ago) link
^^co-sign on both
I too have the crash-upon-going-back-after-viewing-post for a while. Reinstalled, did not work. 4th gen. iPad on 10.3.3.I mostly use Zing on the iPhone (5S, no problems there) but would appreciate a fix if possible.
― willem, Friday, 6 October 2017 07:16 (six years ago) link
The back button thing is driving me nuts. The problem, I think, is that I put the full thread title in the titlebar. In iOS 6, the back button kept the "Back" label, so it was plenty big. In iOS7 that changed so that if there wasn't room it would shrink right down to just the "<". I wonder if it's got even smaller in iOS 11. I'll try a version with no title and see if that helps.

ILX masculine dude thread seems to be broken on Zing.

Always assumed it was a deliberate choice by stet to let I stand in for Q to keep the interface less crowded.
― shackling the masses with plastic-wrapped snack picks (sic), Sunday, 15 October 2017 19:50 (six years ago) link
I’m biased, I use block quotes all the time and today I noticed there’s room for it
― El Tomboto, Sunday, 15 October 2017 19:52 (six years ago) link
I would IAP this feature fwiw (for $2 even!! Cause I’m rich)
― El Tomboto, Sunday, 15 October 2017 19:54 (six years ago) link

^ tell yr mom
then the IAP approach works great; the rich people without headphone jacks can buy in, the rest can just use italics (signaling their desperate hardscrabble existence)
― El Tomboto, Monday, 16 October 2017 15:16 (six years ago) link
The reply button automatically adds block quotes
― "The" Blink-182 (wins), Monday, 16 October 2017 15:29 (six years ago) link
yes and I would much prefer that it do italics instead

inability to back out of threads is saddest bug ever. donating monies.
― Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Saturday, 21 October 2017 16:23 (six years ago) link
Yeah I've been wondering about that. Doesn't seem like a consistent bug.
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 October 2017 16:32 (six years ago) link
The “back” button should totally be an IAP Stet just missing out on opportunities all over the place
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 21 October 2017 16:39 (six years ago) link
If you want quotes formatted in italics that’s a job for your style sheet. Quotes are quotes.

Is it the one where you have to click the little arrow on the left? Seems like the target area got smaller in the latest update...
― DJI, Saturday, 21 October 2017 22:52 (six years ago) link
Yeah I assume folks are just talking about the left caret being harder to hit
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 21 October 2017 23:07 (six years ago) link
it's worse than that. like Ned said, sometimes it works as expected and sometimes there's no choice but to close the app.
― Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Sunday, 22 October 2017 02:07 (six years ago) link
I’ll show you it on my phone, Stet.

tbh a lot of my apps have been acting up since OS11 in similar ways - Kindle will freeze up and stop responding to swipes. Chrome, especially when FB is loaded on it, just randomly ignores taps on various buttons.
