A thread to consider Second Language (Plinth, Piano Magic, Dollboy etc) and beyond (Clay Pipe Music, David Sheppard, Michael Tanner etc)

Not strictly Second Language (it's on Wayside and Woodland) but I'm fond of this for reasons that I can't quite figure:

From the Durutti Column thread:

https://olivercherer.bandcamp.com/

Vini's guitar being used well.

saw this revive and simultaneously experienced two very different and extreme emotions:

VINI DIED.

VINI'S BACK.

both with this facial expression: O_O

glad i was wrong.

x-post.

Yes, I have previously proposed a ban on this thread just because I always jump to the first of these.

Haven't actually heard the story of the guitar and wonder if it is mundane as "Vini sold his guitar"? Still, I have time for Cherer.

Might move this conversation to the Second Language thread - less traumatic for those watching.

This sounds really promising, based on the first track. His Gilroy Mere project also got a lot of play here last year.

Clay Pipe not Second Language but the new Andrew Wasylyk ("Balgay Hill - Morning In Magnolia") is very nice to have trickling along in the background.

I've greatly enjoyed the two EPS released this year by Theory of Ghosts, which has also prompted a deeper dive into the Piano Magic/Second Language discography. Glen's songwriting is really strong with this latest project. One of my top picks for 2023.

This is my Piano Magic "Best of", albeit the "Best of" on the night/week/whatever that I compiled it:

At different times it would have contained more whirring and clicking.

very nice list

btw, the Theory of Ghosts EPs are pretty good. I know glen a bit but haven't asked him specifically why he essentially just changed the name of the band, but maybe it's just because he retired PM, then felt like still making music, but didn't want to pull an LCD Soundsytem and return two years later. I know the ToG lineup plays PM songs live though. If there's a difference, it's that it's focused more on the 'rock' side of PM which always fluctuated in prominence

Glen gets into those questions in the interview he did with Sound of Violence earlier this year
