also emo-adjacent: the Phoebe Bridgers album is out today. There's a late-Kozelek cover that actually works.

Which song is the Prozzak joke on?

"Daytime TV" is basically me at 11-years-old when I faked sick so much they thought I had hypoglycemia.

jmm, Friday, 22 September 2017 17:43 (six years ago) link

"Play the Field" is an amazing song.

ah haha, I just listened on Spotify which has all the skits. I'm sure I still have a dusty copy of Hot Show in a stack of loose CDs (its natural home).

jmm, Saturday, 23 September 2017 16:34 (six years ago) link

Partner are so cool. My only complaint is that Lucy needs to have more lead vocals. Josée is fantastic though.

I overlooked this year's Tim Kasher album (the soundtrack to a musical film he wrote/directed) but it's his best thing in a while

new circa survive is their best in yeeaaars, maybe their best ever. having said that, i think to most it will sound like Another Circa Survive Record

anybody in this thread love knapsack and the jealous sound? bc some of those dudes are in a new band called racquet club, and their new album came out today, and it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect of a post-knapsack/jealous sound record, and i love it

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 29 September 2017 22:23 (six years ago) link

New TWIABP record is my favorite thing they’ve done yet. Now concise than the last one but lots of knockouts

foxing + tigers jaw opened for manchester orchestra last night. i liked foxing's set more than i've ever liked their recorded music. the man o show was great of course.

this is sorta out of nowhere but i'm really enjoying this odd and gorgeous emo record from a philly band named caracara https://caracaraphilly.bandcamp.com/

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:07 (six years ago) link

great art

Spottie, Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:08 (six years ago) link

actually yeah this album is really really awesome

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:37 (six years ago) link

i was already pretty into it and the sax solo on "oh brother" just knocked me out, wow

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 October 2017 19:41 (six years ago) link

This album is awesome. It takes off exactly where the Jealous Sound stopped - hard to believe it's not the same band. I love Blair Shehan's voice and melodies.

ArchCarrier, Friday, 6 October 2017 10:47 (six years ago) link

the caracara record is still in regular rotation, that thing is the real deal

also agreed with archcarrier that the racquet club record is basically a continuation of the jealous sound and it fucking rules. "blood on the moon" is such a great song, he has such a strange and individual ear for hooks

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 13 October 2017 16:38 (six years ago) link

I like that Cara Cara record a lot!

oh my god this oliver houston album just knocked me on my ass

It only took me eight months to notice this album, thank you discover weekly

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 16 October 2017 13:16 (six years ago) link

legit lol-ed at the Sharon Van Etten in-joke Oliver Houston end that record with. Sounds like they've got quite a few of those geeky allusions scattered throughout the record but that one especially has gotta confound the shit out of anybody who doesn't get the reference.

With the news (to me) that Jeremy Enigk is releasing a new album this month.

ArchCarrier, Monday, 16 October 2017 18:38 (six years ago) link

fuck the Partner album is so addictive, more power-pop than emo but so fun. and funny! I wish more albums were funny!

That oliver Houston album is great. Loving the new Front Bottoms, Iron Chic and Worriers records.

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 19 October 2017 00:30 (six years ago) link

the racquet club record has been playing over and over in my head for the past month

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 1 November 2017 16:16 (six years ago) link

I admit the Turnover record wasn't doing much for me but ahead of seeing them on tuesday (w/ Emma Ruth Rundle and Elvis Depressedly supporting, which feels like a dream lineup contrived just for me) I have been giving it another shot and it sounds so lush and good

Simon H., Monday, 6 November 2017 15:15 (six years ago) link
