Look, the zing itself bothered me because it was from someone I consider a good friend of mine and a decent human being and I wasn't sure why he felt the way he did, and I've still not gotten a satisfactory answer from him. At the time, most people on the Chicago thread were like, "dude, Dan, wtf?" -- the consensus was that he had definitely crossed a line.

So it sucks to see that Laurel thought that the zing was casually funny enough to repost on the Noise Board -- but not entirely surprising, given that she has a tendency to interpret my (fairly innocuous) words and behavior in a way that has resulted in cruel, judgmental comments (cf. the Chicago thread yesterday and in a private e-mail dated October 24, 2006).

No. I had sent out a mass e-mail to most of the Chicago thread trying to gauge whether people were mad at me, as someone had implied to me at a bar. Nearly everyone responded with, "Dude, it's cool, we don't have a problem with you." And I was like, "Okay, cool, that's what I thought." Except for Laurel, who went to great length to criticize me for reacting the way I did.

Why waste precious webspace with this chocolate killer when the angelic Kate Beckinsale is right there in your backyard. I wish she was in my backyard. She has a nice backyard.

He probably takes multiple anxiety medications and sleeping pills mixed with alcohol in order to get a couple hours of restful sleep before he can actually feel the blood on his hands again and has to get up and vomit prior to taking a scalding hot shower to wash the smell off his body that he can smell as if he was back at Nicole's townhose.

Yeah, maybe, if it was at all a fair interpretation of what I had said.

and yes, the phrasing of what he said and the weird reference and the HANGING ON TO AN E-MAIL BEEF FROM OCTOBER 2006 that is why it is ridiculous, not the amazing fact that g-mail allows you to look up exacting dates, mr. que is correct in his assumptions.

I'm only referring to a private e-mail to give context for why I was bothered by Laurel reposting that zing. I'm not hanging onto that e-mail beef, either. In fact, Laurel and I saw each other in person like a week after that exchange and things seemed totally fine. But her recent behavior has reminded me of that e-mail conversation, and I've been wondering if I was right last fall to have tried to forgive and forget, or whether I should've just written her off back then as well. As we noted yesterday, though, that's a hard thing to do on ILX.
