Watching the seasons in reverse order has worked for me over the last few days.

albvivertine, Tuesday, 5 September 2017 21:41 (six years ago) link

is the new season out?

Available this Friday I believe

groovypanda, Wednesday, 6 September 2017 10:22 (six years ago) link

s3's finale pulls off emotional/tone whiplash better than almost anything I've seen in recent memory.

I love how sparing this show is with uh, "foul language" or whatever. Swearing isn't inherently funny, which a lot of shows seem to assume, and this show only throws it in when necessary, which weighs it SO much more. Tbh though this is basically a drama with comedic elements and comparing it to the average sweary comedy seems odd. It's also odd to have the only relatable show on tv that deals with depression/addiction be a cartoon about an asshole horse (as noted above) but I'll take what's available. It's not the first time I've felt voiced by Will Annett.

albvivertine, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:41 (six years ago) link

*there should be a "isn't the" in there somewhere.

albvivertine, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:42 (six years ago) link

Lol also "case". I've been pulling a BoJack tonight, soz

albvivertine, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:43 (six years ago) link

not just sparing. each series only contains ONE use of 'fuck', on each occasion used by an old friend of bojack's severing ties with him. when that was pointed out to me it blew me away.

imago, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:44 (six years ago) link

what will season four's fuck be? D: etc

imago, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:44 (six years ago) link

I think I just meant an *is. Something about this show, maaaaan xpost

albvivertine, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:49 (six years ago) link

Thanks for a) making it even worse and b) giving new a reason to rewatch

albvivertine, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:50 (six years ago) link

*me. So did the use of "cunt" once mean anything? It shocked me a little.

albvivertine, Friday, 8 September 2017 07:52 (six years ago) link

idk, it's fine if a british person says it ;)

"Stupid piece of shit" is really, really uncomfortably close to reality. My family went through nearly the same thing w/my grandmother and a doll.

just when you think it can't get any better there's a (good) Bunuel homage

ok all done

I was looking forward to this but was kinda scared to watch it

I love the constant background gags.

I pita the ful (Egyptian restaurant) might be my favourite sight gag in the whole thing to date.

I wanted a screencap from episode two of the roadside dinosaur attraction for the "dinosaurs staring haplessly" thread but haven't been able to get one.

Old Lynch's Sex Paragraph (Phil D.), Tuesday, 12 September 2017 18:09 (six years ago) link

Just struck me as funny how insecure nerd's fantasy self Mr Peanutbutter (confident, blasé, oblivious, great with ppl) is married to literate glasses-wearing super-cute and nerdy (and Asian, that was a stereotypical nerd thing right?) nerd dream woman Diane. And their marriage isn't really working, cos she needs someone more I dunno, nerdy and bitter.

albvivertine, Wednesday, 13 September 2017 12:29 (six years ago) link

I still find it a bit weird that Diane is voiced by Alison Brie

but anyway this might have been the most consistently good season yet, and the most brutal

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 13 September 2017 12:32 (six years ago) link

It's a seriously good show, is the thing. Like a comedy that merits the attention of a drama or something, I dunno.

albvivertine, Wednesday, 13 September 2017 12:57 (six years ago) link

I've found its very easy to zone out and miss a lot of the jokes AND important plot points in this, it requires an amount of focus when I'm used to letting shows like this kind of wash over me. You sort of have to retrain yourself to pay attention vs most tv, I also found myself rewinding not just to catch jokes but also moments where a character inadvertently says something profound about depression or bj's psychology etc

This. I typically watch TV while doing random shit on my phone, but I went back and rewatched BoJack season three and got so much more out of it. Who knew that I should pay attention to what I'm watching.

Lots of variations on the phrase "the inimitable side butt" have been popping into my head this week.

the future child episode was the one that wrecked me this season

I Love You, Fancybear (symsymsym), Friday, 22 September 2017 02:08 (six years ago) link

that episode was almost too brutal

imago, Friday, 22 September 2017 10:38 (six years ago) link

still not sure that the second episode wasn't the most intense. amazing move to throw that one in after the beyond-zany opener

imago, Friday, 22 September 2017 10:39 (six years ago) link

I totally missed the framing of the future child episode the first time I watched it. But also wrecked when I got it the second time through.

Jeff, Friday, 22 September 2017 11:16 (six years ago) link

That penultimate episode with his mother reliving all her memories was an absolute gut punch. Beatrice has been such a horrible character but this season has really recontextualized her.

Monster fatberg (Phil D.), Friday, 22 September 2017 13:02 (six years ago) link

two weeks pass...

I just watched the "stupid piece of shit" ep last night and was in tears at the end, it was way too close to home.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Sunday, 8 October 2017 23:46 (six years ago) link

season 1 finale hit close to home for me..find this show hard to continue to watch for that reason, some of this is so raw and familiar - not sure I need to be reminded
