It'd be kinda funny if they learn that they are related, but just shrug their heads. incest wasn't really such a big taboo in feudal societies. Ned Starks parents were cousins. Daenerys' parents were siblings.

People were executed for incest, as the film Marguerite & Julien shows. (A film I'm just about to put on right now, coincidentally) But cousins, aunts, uncles, those didn't have the same taboo that they have today.

FB that isn't really true. depends on when in european history you're talking. consanguinity of marriage within a certain (legally varying) degree was considered a sin. dispensation had to be given (i forget which english king(s) had to have this granted) the church pushed it out to 7, until the high middle ages when the european aristocracy began to be so interrelated that the ok degree was reduced.

the disability-producing inbreeding of the habsburgs, for ex, is a later early modern phenomenon. i don't know how the church handled that! or it's earlier and not european, if you wanna look at the ptolemies. indulgence of incest for political reasons tends to be a v narrow thing i think.

more to the pt is that it's not clear what kind of taboo incest carries in this world or what the gen pop thinks of it. sometimes it's punished heavily but without any lasting consequence, and as a narrative device the writers seem to like it. lol nothing matters!

Incest in Westeros is generally thought of as taboo, but the Targaryens were powerful and in-charge and they liked incest, so who was gonna stop them really? It might have contributed to the coin flip nature of Targaryen personalities; they would either be regal and intelligent, or paranoid and a little mad.

If Jon and Dany decide to get married and use side by side, maybe the people of Westeros will decide that they've had enough incest after the Targs and then Lannisters and then rise up in revolt

Have to admit that Eliza Dushku as a dark sorceress sounds pretty cool. Haven't seen her act since Wrong Turn, can't really assess her skills.

The problem is going to be Goyer misreading the source material as badass, awesome, epic.

I've read the first two -- they're good and they have their own unique tone in the field of fantasy. I was kind of wrong footed by it at first but came to really appreciate it.

The Steven Erickson books, though, which are apparently hugely influenced by the black company, are complete shit (or at least the first one is-- sorry but if you start that poorly I'm not investing further time in you)

The Malazan ones? Yeah, I tried to get through the first one and had to give up. Made nearly no sense to me, but I liked the ambition of it.

I couldn't get through the first one either. The crazy number of subplots right out of the gate was ridiculous. Maybe start with a contained idea and build up from that.

iirc malazan did in fact start off as an RPG and he converted to novel form. and yes it's bad.
