Fun as it was to get (almost) the whole gang together I couldn't work out why some of those people were even there in the first place. Like what possible reason would there be to bring Missandei or Theon along?

The whole Theon storyline feels completely peripheral at this stage, I'm guessing the Iron Island ships are going to come in useful/the fleet is going to sail in and save the day at the last possible moment, but really who cares at this point.

While I can certainly see how anyone would think the Greyjoy family drama is completely superfluous at this point, I actually thought Theon's road to redemption looked like the most interesting and compelling storyline that was set up for next season. Certainly the closest plot to the old seasons before magic shit took over. NB, I also enjoy all the magic shit.

Jamie had a redemption arc over the first three seasons but has just yo-yo'd wildly since. I'm looking forward to him reaching Winterfell and being thanked by Bran for setting him on his immensely rewarding career path.

Too bAd the show is going more in this "rightful king" "rightful lady" direction out of landfill fantasy.

That was a pretty cracking finale to a patchy season, silly in a good way, everything sorta made sense. People complaining about the season ending with the fucking wall being blown to shreds by a fucking ice dragon get over yourselves.

Hopefully they'll have the guts to subvert that by having Dani and Jon eventually foreswear the throne in favour of someone who'll be better at it, eg Tyrion or Varys.

they'll end the show with the first ever general election, and in a shocking twist everyone will just vote for the loudest drunkest idiot in all of westeros because they've had enough of dynasty rule and they want someone who represents their impossible desires to say "fuck you" to the entire system

then the white walkers will invade again, the new drunk idiot ruler will say that all things equal, westeros should be friends with the white walkers, right, it'll turn out that the drunk idiot ruler actually owns several lucrative properties far north of the wall, and half of the voters will agree that yes, westeros should be friends with the night king, makes sense

It'd be kinda funny if they learn that they are related, but just shrug their heads. incest wasn't really such a big taboo in feudal societies. Ned Starks parents were cousins. Daenerys' parents were siblings.

People were executed for incest, as the film Marguerite & Julien shows. FB that isn't really true. depends on when in european history you're talking. consanguinity of marriage within a certain (legally varying) degree was considered a sin. dispensation had to be given (i forget which english king(s) had to have this granted) the church pushed it out to 7, until the high middle ages when the european aristocracy began to be so interrelated that the ok degree was reduced.

the disability-producing inbreeding of the habsburgs, for ex, is a later early modern phenomenon. i don't know how the church handled that! or it's earlier and not european, if you wanna look at the ptolemies. indulgence of incest for political reasons tends to be a v narrow thing i think.
