i think i can guess but just to confirm - benjen's not going to come back as a whitewalker, right? because he's already dead? or something? because if he winds up as a zombie mini-boss in the final season that's gonna add a whole layer of wtf-ness to his sudden appearance and pointless death

what i wanna know is, why didn't benjen get on the horse with jon, what did he hope to achieve by staying behind

i want to know more about this ice king and his friend. they have cool clothes. who made the clothes? do they eat?

I said it way back but I'm disappointed they gave the white walkers clothes and made them show emotions etc. Now they're just the "bad guys". I wouldn't be surprised if the first sound the night king made was an evil laugh during the wall collapse.

I wish they stayed this alien, humanoid personification of a deadly storm that was set on mindlessly wiping out humanity via an undead horde.

Hopefully get to see the Night King just fly over the wall and south for a bit doing some damage but the Wall magic probably extends upwards into space. Watching them test this out for a while from greater and greater height might be funny.

OTM re Walker Fashion. imma guess it's mostly a concession to budget but yeah, night king has gotten hella corny.

If you're going to dress them up, at least make them look like they're wearing human armor that was forged thousands of years ago. That would make more sense.

it is extremely important that the character called the Night King have a sensible wardrobe and not be too corny

the actual nadir of this episode was theon getting in that little quip "that insult wasn't even good" or w/ever literal moments after he's supposed to be fretting over his sister's life, wtf

i thought a lot of that episode was good.

i understand the eyerolls at the sidequest to get the wight but i thought the payoff in kings landing was compelling. and i enjoy jaime's continued arc, seeming to head toward redemption by finally fucking off from cersei's weird games.

i didn't realize that a weakness of the wall, made of ice, is dragon ice, but oh well.

oh, and i meant to mention, cersei's secret decision to betray daenerys and jon snow (and jaime) by making a false promise to send troops north was gripping - deceitful, flying in the face of honor, and true to character.

given that the wall has already been breached, though, kings landing may be the best defenses left standing?

The Littlefinger scene was good.

yeah i thought the littlefinger scene was good

i had sort of expected the death toll was going to be LF + one of the Stark sisters, and while i'm glad that it was just him, i can't help but feel that both of the starks surviving is a departure from the early seasons. also expected that jamie would get merc'd somehow just before arriving in winterfell and completing his redemptive arc (though this could still happen)

I thought this was a great episode

And how cersei's deceit contrasts with Jon's inconvenient honesty was really well played

And I was happy with how the arya-sansa rift played out even if I thought they did a mediocre job of selling us on it (again I guess that's plot points out of process, but building these characters for hours and hours of development really helps you paper over flubs later on)

I guess the theon fight scene was a little goofy (there's a king of the hill episode it reminded me of, lol) but I thought that was a good development for his character arc however handled

To clarify I mean the build up of the arya-sansa "rift" was mediocre but the payoff was well executed

I'm a little surprised the Mountain didn't kill anyone this episode

And that should have read "plot points *over* process"

sam's indulgent "oh really? that's nice, dear" expression to Bran was so fkn gold I want to frame it

cersei is cersei-ing harder than she has ever cersei-d now & i love her for it. dad would be proud of her psychotic vengefulness

brianne & the hound having a parental moment recapping arya together was p great

i thought the king's landing stuff was pretty deftly handled. cersei's plan isn't without merits, i imagine she may survive the war up north and live to fight another day. and this sets the stage for an actual high stakes Clegane-off.

littlefinger's end was satisfying, though a bit telegraphed. w/seven episodes left they also wouldn't have had time to deal with the repercussions of sansa or arya killing the other, plus LF's whole plan was predicated on them not really having a serious talk with Bran about how he's into weirdness now.

was worried for a min once we saw tormund and beric making a run for it but we never saw them die, which means they survived.

what's interesting with littlefinger is that he's stayed relatively still, in winterfell, for so long, which seems like a death sentence for a conniver like him

Bran's powers finally showing some usefulness but still creepy: massive lols at him explaining Jon's lineage over visuals of Targaryen incest.

I doubt I'll go out of my way to watch next season. Other than a handful of scenes I was underwhelmed by this.

Agree that the arya /Sansa plot line was kind of a wonky one to last a whole season
