it is a list of albums

marcos, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:35 (six years ago) link

if you don't like pet sounds, then why do you read lists in the first place?

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:35 (six years ago) link

forever searching for the one best-of list without pet sounds

what sound does a shit cat make?

Dusty in Memphis is my first pick for an album that doesn't even belong on this list. Especially considering the complete lack of Sandy Denny.

In what universe are Dusty and Sandy interchangeable?

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:42 (six years ago) link

also like how do you read a '60s list and entertain the thought of dusty in memphis not being on it

sick, fucking funny, and well tasty (katherine), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:45 (six years ago) link

particularly a staff list, do you really think everyone is going to have the exact same contrarian impulse en masse`

sick, fucking funny, and well tasty (katherine), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:45 (six years ago) link

dusty in memphis is so good

marcos, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:46 (six years ago) link

it should've been in the top ten

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:48 (six years ago) link

I like the list so far, only about halfway through. Probably will have to put together a spotify list that includes all full albums, as pfork only has a sampler list.

Moodles, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:49 (six years ago) link

it was in mine

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:50 (six years ago) link

xp

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:50 (six years ago) link

my approach to my ballot was at least somewhat contrarian but dusty in memphis still sounds like glitter falling out of your speakers imo. undeniable record

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 17:17 (six years ago) link

lol came here to post that. right next to a story about Stranger Things

flappy bird, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link

Should have at least ended that article with a YouTube video of the Seinfeld theme.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 17:35 (six years ago) link

yeah i mean at least Stranger Things has the older brother that inexplicably has tapes of The Smiths in 1983 in Indiana

flappy bird, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 17:38 (six years ago) link

Jerry Seinfeld is coming to Netflix with a new hour-long special. It’s called Jerry Before Seinfeld, and it will feature previously unreleased material, including footage from his childhood and “a library of legal pads with every joke he’s written since 1975.”

Not the thread for it but who the hell is interested in that? "I'm Jerry Seinfeld, I tell jokes for a living and these are the ones from waaay back. Also some home videos."

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 18:22 (six years ago) link

I feel like something went horribly awry during the "Jerry shows his 'pads" pitch meeting and now.

because the world demands it, joan crawford grades yr top ten of the 60s

Aretha - A, Aretha is automatic A deep into the 80s
Miles - A, but the Second Great Quintet is the 60s, it's called "Great" for a reason and Silent is...also great, but like...Miles playing straight jazz is also great, look into it
Revolver - no grade, haven't heard it, people say it's great though, I'm sure it's fine
James Brown Live at the Apollo - A. Come on this one's obvious
Blonde on Blonde - this album is way too long. B
Wild is the Wind - A
White Album - this album is also too long and has "Ob-La-Di." C+
A Love Supreme - A+, always even better than I remember
Pet Sounds - D, this album sucks so bad
Velvet Underground & Nico - B+, huge album obviously but can we just exhale & admit "Venus in Furs" is a slog and "Black Angel's Death Song" is like mandatory reading for a class

some cats don't dig Trane, but I love those sheets of sound just want to snuggle up in them and take a nap

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 19:24 (six years ago) link

I remember reading in the Trouser Press guide about a semi-joke '80s indie act called Proof of Utah who had a winky John Coltrane riff called "I Love Ice Cream" (say it out loud).

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 19:30 (six years ago) link

yea venus in furs is so good xps

marcos, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 19:31 (six years ago) link

before they could record all of these albums every artist had to...

plan it

nomar, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 19:37 (six years ago) link

I do appreciate the irony of a guy who just wrote an entire album about goths thinking that the ur-goth song is "a slog"

White Light White Heat is the best VU imo

Freewheelin is my favorite. Blonde on Blonde is kind of a mess.

marcos, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 21:52 (six years ago) link

if we're getting all canonical Highway 61 is undeniably the best of Dylan's "electric period" peak, all killer no filler

fave VU for me is (like Tyler) probably Live 1969 tbh

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 21:53 (six years ago) link

blonde on blonde is my favorite dylan and the white album is my favorite beatles but i love big messy double albums
