what if a faceless woman with terminal cancer volunteered to take ned's place?

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 15:35 (six years ago) link

OMG re that "Ned aint ded" theory:
And this would make sense, because there are a number of clues in the books that point toward Ned's body looking different after he was executed. Sansa points out that the head on the Red Keep doesn't look like her father's, and Catelyn Stark notes that his bones look smaller.

And in a recent episode Sansa and Arya looked at his statue in the crypt and scoffed "they couldnt even get his face right" or something similar.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 23:14 (six years ago) link

Didn't Nedfinger kiss Sansa a couple of seasons ago before handing her over to Bolton?

louie mensch (milo z), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 23:17 (six years ago) link

Yeah I dont think LF is Ned.

Front page of yahoo is always pretty amazing for "this new fan theory about game of thrones will blow your mind" posts.

The one I saw today was that Gendry was actually the son of Robert and Cersei and the "baby who looked like Robert" hadn't died but his death was faked by her.

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 01:03 (six years ago) link

anyways, that this even seems remotely plausible is a good sign of how utterly dumbfuck this show has gotten in the past two seasons

I think it's more like... just ppl being dumbfucks but agree to disagree.

ian, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 01:38 (six years ago) link

This show was so much more intelligent when it had gratuitous nudity

i just remembered this awesome show called game of thrones season 1

name a scene in season 6 or 7 that is within an order of magnitude the quality of the tube just above

I CHALLENGE YOU

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 07:16 (six years ago) link

i still like the show, but once i loved the show

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 07:16 (six years ago) link

ok i concede that the montage where sam collects bedpans and serves soup is up there

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 07:19 (six years ago) link

but arguably you learn more about these characters in this one exchange that doesn't even include CGI for some weird reason than you do in months worth of shitty episodes

Baratheon: you want to know the horrible truth? I don't even remember what she looked like. I only she was the one thing i ever wanted. someone took her away from me. and 7 kingdoms couldn't fill the hole she left behind.

Cersei: i felt something for you once, you know.

B: i know

C: even after we lost our first boy, for quite a while, actually. was it ever possible for us? was there ever a time, a moment?

B: No. *cersei chugs wine* Does that make you feel better or worse?

C: it doesn't make me feel anything.

yes i know i am blowing your minds, that early game of thrones is better than whatever this is, much, much better. so much better. *chugs wine*

admittedly looking forward to the PS4 action adventure based on the last couple seasons. 15,000 pieces of gold unlocks Beric's flame sword

Can we start a final thread and call it "whinging is here"

As an ilxor, I am uncompromising (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 07:36 (six years ago) link

i notice the challenge is unmet!

btw why are you awake? :)

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 07:37 (six years ago) link

Jaime and Oleanna at Highgarden was probably the best of the 'talking' scenes so far this season.

AlanSmithee, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 08:20 (six years ago) link

So, we're Simpsons-ing this show now are we.

I hope not. Recently saw gameplay trailers for a new Lord Of The Rings game complete with dialogue determined to make the experience mundane. Made me sad even after all the insane merchandising LotR has had.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 12:36 (six years ago) link

I dunno, maybe dragons are just really fast, who cares.

Yeah is it concievable they could go as fast as planes? In which case the flight would've taken 5-6 hours, based on GRRM saying Westeros is about the size of South America. There have been far more egregious plot holes.

chap, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 12:41 (six years ago) link

Maybe they exude a forcefield that would protect the rider from the resulting G Force or whatever you call the pressure resulting from air hitting you in the face at that speed.

& I thought that everybody up to thhe invention of the steam train thought that there were limits to how fast you could travel healthily.

Stevolende, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 12:49 (six years ago) link

People are speculating that GRRM is pretty cold on what's happening this season. Probably spending all his time revising to make sure all character mileage and travel expenses are documented.

I thought that everybody up to thhe invention of the steam train thought that there were limits to how fast you could travel healthily.

Possibly in our world. Doesn't mean the same is true in Westeros.

chap, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 13:07 (six years ago) link

Yeah is it concievable they could go as fast as planes?

No, it's not inconceivable. But they would have to show it. Anything is possible if we just say 'a wizard did it'. But that makes a worse show.

Eallach mhór an duine leisg (dowd), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 13:09 (six years ago) link

We're not saying 'a wizard dd it'. We're saying, 'these dragons, which have already been shown as being able to fly quite fast, can fly really fast'.

chap, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 13:59 (six years ago) link

the dragons can fly backward in time, like in the second 'dragonlance' trilogy maybe

reggie (qualmsley), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:01 (six years ago) link

Westeros has a high altitude super fast air-current which flows in a narrow loop from north to south and back again. It's called Jon's Raven's News Round.

Shat Parp (dog latin), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:04 (six years ago) link

Did we ever get any hint at how fast the ravens travel? Messages sent by Raven always seemed to get around pretty fast. I would assume a dragon is faster.

silverfish, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:15 (six years ago) link

dragon do a lot more circling and showing off

i'll post this again

dan selzer, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:17 (six years ago) link

Damn I forgot about the raven having to get to Dragonstone too. I contend a dragon would travel much faster than a raven though.

chap, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:27 (six years ago) link

i am v cool with ppl not caring about how dumb it was, but ppl trying to prove it wasn't dumb is fucking ridiculous

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:33 (six years ago) link

I think it was dumb, but I think it can be waved away just about convincingly. And I enjoy wasting time figuring out the speed of fictional animals and stuff. Other things bother me far more about GoT at the moment, eg terrible dialogue and really weird pacing.

chap, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:35 (six years ago) link

yeah, all the logistics of these things can be explained away and I don't think the show necessarily has to explain it to the viewer.

What bothers me way more is a bunch of characters who are supposed to be smart making a series of dumb decisions just so the show can introduce an ice dragon. This is the kind of stuff that did not happen in seasons 1-4.

silverfish, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 14:40 (six years ago) link

I mean, above all my issue is that the dialogue has gotten fucking awful, or I've only just started noticing that it's awful. The opening 10 mins of Sunday's ep were painful.
