Several of these albums are better known for a few key songs/singles, not necessarily known for being key albums, as such. I've never heard them, but are, say, the LPs here by Wilson Pickett, Shangri-Las, Link Wray, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline or Roy Orbison (for example) particularly good albums, or do they succeed mostly by dint of the artists/geniuses involved? Like, are there better Roy Orbison albums than others, or are they all good, because it's Roy Orbison, just some have better/better known singles than others?

this list is great so far -- I didn't vote this time because my schedule for the past few weeks has basically been a complete hellscape but I'm glad it turned out well

This list pretty much reminded me why I own less albums from the '60s than I do from the '70s and '80s.

As someone who has been into jazz since my teenage years, I'm unimpressed by the jazz picks and borderline offended by the mashing up of jazz and rock albums.

List is dogshit.

Dusty In Memphis is where it should be.

So you think they should have separate rock and jazz lists?

anyone got a plaintext version of this

Jazzbo unimpressed with decade list compiled by popular music website that only occasionally covers jazz in the first place, film at 11.

And if we want to talk overrated, Dusty in Memphis is my first pick for an album that doesn't even belong on this list. Especially considering the complete lack of Sandy Denny.

The White Album isn't the Beatles' best album.

Pet Sounds isn't better than any jazz album on the list.

And, finally, there's this:

“In C” isn’t a record you measure against Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde.

Then why in the fuck are you doing exactly that?

Fuck this list.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Tuesday, 22 August 2017 16:33 (six years ago) link

also like how do you read a '60s list and entertain the thought of dusty in memphis not being on it

I like the list so far, only about halfway through. Probably will have to put together a spotify list that includes all full albums, as pfork only has a sampler list.

Jerry Seinfeld is coming to Netflix with a new hour-long special. It’s called Jerry Before Seinfeld, and it will feature previously unreleased material, including footage from his childhood and “a library of legal pads with every joke he’s written since 1975.”

Not the thread for it but who the hell is interested in that? "I'm Jerry Seinfeld, I tell jokes for a living and these are the ones from waaay back. Also some home videos."

I feel like something went horribly awry during the "Jerry shows his 'pads" pitch meeting and now.

because the world demands it, joan crawford grades yr top ten of the 60s

Aretha - A, Aretha is automatic A deep into the 80s
Miles - A, but the Second Great Quintet is the 60s, it's called "Great" for a reason and Silent is...also great, but like...Miles playing straight jazz is also great, look into it
Revolver - no grade, haven't heard it, people say it's great though, I'm sure it's fine
James Brown Live at the Apollo - A. Come on this one's obvious
Blonde on Blonde - this album is way too long. B
Wild is the Wind - A
White Album - this album is also too long and has "Ob-La-Di." C+
A Love Supreme - A+, always even better than I remember
Pet Sounds - D, this album sucks so bad
Velvet Underground & Nico - B+, huge album obviously but can we just exhale & admit "Venus in Furs" is a slog and "Black Angel's Death Song" is like mandatory reading for a class
