what if she tries to keep a brave face to the public, and makes polite small talk about politics, food and the weather? Would that make her a bad mom?

are the public in this case a 30 million overnight viewership, a stadium full of zombies, a few dead redshirts, a ragtag bunch of mercenaries and wight-in-a-bag or like my uncle gene? Because okay if latter but if former i want some emotion.

or, let's say, as one of those popular commentary blogs does, Dany is Hillary Clinton, and she's talking to her potential Secretary of Defense, would she be all blubbery about it, or would she want to remain composed and tough in order to continue to keep the confidence and respect of the guy in question?

if one of hillary clinton's dragons died and she didn't tear up a little, i would be a little disturbed by it
i feel pretty sure that clinton would have deployed those dragons considerably more intelligently.
thus far dany has taken these things out for a spin twice; the first time she got one of them stuck in the neck with a giant crossbow bolt and the second time one of the giant unkillable super creatures got killed in one hit. she doesn't seem very good at this.

maybe hire a wartime consigliere or get one of those robot jockey things that the UAE guys use to race camels

Dude, you are basing this off of her conversation with Jon, which is a different dynamic. We don't know whether she bawled her eyes out in the privacy of her room, punched a pillow, drew a picture of her dead dragonchild to later have made into a locket that she will wear close to her heart once she gets back to civilization.

Also, if she were a man, and some enemy force killed one of her children, would she be teary and sad, or would she/he be steely-eyed, "I will join with you to decimate the motherfuckers that murdered my son!" ... in the context of Westeros, and not some contemporary First World cultural norms.

I agree with the thinking that most of this season's problems are a result of the showrunners trying to cram two 1500 page books worth of stuff into two shortened seasons

My question is: why did they feel the need to rush the ending? Rapidly rising actor salaries? Showrunners getting bored?

I would think that HBO would want to milk the cash cow for as long as they could, so what gives?

eh, negotiating with the principal actors for another couple of seasons of work could turn that cash cow into a bear fairly quickly

part of the pleasure of some of these plot twists is imagining how these guys will explain it. i predicted that Benioff would say something about how "it's a whole new ball game" or "the night king just evened the score" now that he has an ice dragon, but he went with "The Night King now has his own weapon of mass destruction."

the only way they could have done more lead-up for this would be if it had a scene of her in her quarters with posters of jon snow everywhere, and she then turned to the camera and said "yes, i am hot for jon snow" - they've prob had to set aside about 5/6 minutes of her staring lovingly at him since clarke's face-acting is so inefficient.

Cracking #ladsontour action in the first half of that episode, but they seemed to be hammering home how stupid everyone was supposed to be, which is the only thing that can explain allowing one of your number to freeze to death WHEN YOU HAVE A FUCKING FIRE SWORD or not even trying to melt the ice the zombies were walking over WHEN YOU HAVE A FUCKING FIRE SWORD.

Amazing that, having just fought an undead bear, the zombie dragon thing didn't seem to occur to anyone at all, including Jon Snow, the first person it would have occurred to.

Awesome and dumb episode anyway. They were definitely trolling with Sansa talking about the distance to King's Landing in the same episode. I dunno, maybe dragons are just really fast, who cares.

How does a really fast dragon protect its rider. I thought people thought that if you went over 25 miles per hour it would be fatal or at least very unhealthy..
But how secure is a rider at top speed. Is she secured by the ridges etc on the dragon's back like? & does that protect her head too?

i don't care about the logistics of getting from a to b - i definitely agree tho that they fucked around with nothing happening except in the first and final two episodes of each season for about 2/3 seasons, saving all the actual events until the end, and probably did a really bad job of balancing that.

^^^ Agree with that, they're overcompensating for all those endless tedious scenes of Dany pardoning/executing peasants or Arya fighting people with sticks.

But those were the best scenes :(

At this stage, more than previous seasons, it's very difficult to imagine one of the big characters being killed off. Maybe one of Jaime or Cersei but otherwise?

Varys is second-tier as far as the cast go, lots of characters at his level could be killed off, but it would be a big shock to lose one of the remaining Lannisters or Starks at this point, let alone Dany.

spoiler alert i guess but it has been m/l established for certain that ned was a faceless man. as i see it there are 2 directions they might be taking this. the first is that ned switched faces with littlefinger and littlefinger was executed and ned is still littlefinger. the second is that ned switched faces with littlefinger and littlefinger was executed and now ned is every character. now that we know the cast list for the final season is just sean bean i am leaning towards the latter.

night king sounds like "ned king" a bit.

It's even more impressive since Sean Bean died in 2013. He must have filmed all these scenes in advance.

it was a nice touch calling the guy on the horse at the end "uncle bean"
