haha yeah, i realllllly miss the days of paying $65 for a 2CD audience recording with xeroxed cover art.

I do miss the days of doing the rounds and buying cassette boots from the various places in Camden and getting to know the characters, there was a crazy american guy who sold out of a really small box of boots that he had mostly recorded himself and it was stuff like Meat Puppets, Rain Parade, it was all gold, I definitely miss that aspect.

I got my recording of bedspring symphony from a great shop in Manchester. Shelves and shelves of bootleg cassettes. You made your choice and then had to go back the next day when it would have been dubbed to another blank cassette.

i remember getting cassette boots on bleecker street in NYC and then coming back to play them and finding they had all been dubbed at the wrong speeds.

Underworld - European Club Gig comes to mind, just awesome jammy UW from start to finish with the most massive "Born Slippy" ever (the original, not the "NUXX" version, though that one appears too)

the 2005 Autechre Glasgow gig is awesome too

They Might be Giants - Dr. Spock's Backup Band (from '93, I think?) is great, probably one of their last shows before the full band came in

Kraftwerk - Nippon Numbers, from 1981. Sounds great and you get to hear them "jam out" in a sense

I really need to hear that one, the BBC Sessions are way up there for me as well

I have a couple of Miles Davis boots from the 1975 tour of Japan that aren't as good as Agharta and Pangaea, but they're pretty great.

I also have one of the John McLaughlin/Carlos Santana superband (Larry Young on organ, Doug Rauch on bass, Billy Cobham on drums, Armando Peraza on percussion) from Chicago 1973 that's good but super wanky.

I'd actually never heard the Roxy BBC sessions before this minute. Man, the first one is amazing! xp

Bought double LP (green + red vinyl) at Second Coming Records near Bleeker. Didn't discover until 20 years later that it was filmed for German TV.

Brian Eno - Dali's Car : Contains his wonderful collaboration w/ underappreciated and obscure pub rock/glam chancers The Winkies, wherein they trot out some gems from those early Eno vocal records (and Peggy Lee's Fever!). It's great hearing this material tackled by a functioning "rock" band, and they are every bit as freaked out and fantastic as the originals. All done under the aegis of the late and much lamented John Peel via BBC so sound quality is quite good. There are a couple of versions floating around with different period material tacked on to fill out the CD, live and otherwise by various ensembles featuring Eno, but the keepers are those first 5 cuts.

The Eno/Winkies live set from 74 sounds like it should be very good if a better source could be found. One I have is quite distant. & I think that's the one in circulation.
But that's a different thing than the peel session. I think it's live in Derby innit?

he was right as to this day i blame my tinnitus on that gig.

Yeah the live stuff is Derby is well high on unlistenable. That's tacked onto the most recent version. The earliest one, to my knowledge had the BBC studio stuff, along with some live 801 and other odds and sods, but no Derby recordings.

88 stuff is C.O.G. band playing heavy folk rock including acoustic instruments. Songs niot recorded with that line up several of which appeared on the White Rabbit lps a couple of years later.
I do like the 87 stuff still to some degree, really like the extended versions of Sex God Sex especially. & think Feel Good Now had some good stuff on.
But this 88 stuff is a bit different.

Gun Club Lyceum December 83 cos it was the first time i saw them. May not be their best gig but it was one i was after for years and finally got hold of. & I think it is quite good listening.

Whipping Boy Pod 96 great gig captured live during the Heartworm era though still maintaining some of the improvisation of the earlier more shoegazey sound. Unfortunately I will probably never hear it again. The master was lost falling out of a pocket as I left an old shared house.

i prefer the lifetime newcastle show from 1970 nov 6. it's the four piece and a ropey sounding audience tape, but boy it's an interesting set. want to hear lifetime playing meeting of the spirits, noonward transformation, and the dance of maya? i got a thing for crappy audience tapes. my go-to can tapes are giessen 1971 oct 22 and birmingham 1974 feb 10 (they get ignored after damo left but i've never heard them with more _groove_ than they have here).

i don't miss the days of spending ten years trying to finagle my way into getting any "bootleg" that isn't by pink floyd or led zeppelin.
