I watched a new video and it occurred to me that he's distinctly influenced br Fred Durst's melodic vocals, to the point that I wasn't even conscious of the fact Durst's style of writing melodies was that distinctive until I heard this

I think the new project is solid, but not a major step forward. I do really like "The Brightside" though

haven't really been following this guy aside from a few youtubes but i like this latest one. I had the impression that his production adhered to the trend of terribly engineered bullshit but that is not the case? profesh deep emo shit man

That stuff was all just grunge commercialized though

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 19:41 (six years ago) link

Though I have no idea what songs you're talking about unless you mean "the outside" which is more of a grunge song ... in my memory durst just shout raps

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 19:42 (six years ago) link

Melodic durst vocals such as feature in limp bizkit versh of behind blue eyes

-_- (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 19:42 (six years ago) link

he sings too. they're a great band

flopson, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 19:43 (six years ago) link

durst sang a lot

deej thinks he's a real head, not even au fait with the bizkit's oeuvre pfffft

and

THIS IS THE REAL MOTHERFUCKIN DEAL YALL

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:43 (six years ago) link

plenty of singing on singles even

flopson, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 21:00 (six years ago) link

I was just looking at Wikipedia so I could make a list of all the LB singles where Fred sings (there are a bunch) and it is a little startling how completely omnipresent this band was considering they don't have a single top-40 hit. I know it was a different era and all but still; MTV was really sustaining careers at this point.

"re-arranged" is is my favorite bizkit song and it's all singin' durst

BILOXI!!!!!

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 21:57 (six years ago) link

on 'faith' he's singing someone else' song. i remember that, and 'nookie,' and 'the outside' which is with staind, and 'rollin,' which doesn't really have singing unless you count ROLLINROLLINROLLIN, and 'break stuff' (again no singing really), and 'n 2gether now' which again—no singing

im not saying there's no connection bc i think its *bad* that peep would sound like durst, ive argued from post one that his stuff is 'bad on paper good in execution' but of the most popular durst songs i don't really hear it. he was much more known for that grainy rap style imo, and for like SHOUTING the choruses while his voice box gets shredded a la "Faith"

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:02 (six years ago) link

going through youtube now i'm hearing a couple songs w/ singing that i have zero memory of, but they don't sound substantially more peep-ish than staind or alice in chains

i know ppl want to defend the Real Artistry of the early 90s alt rock stuff but

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:04 (six years ago) link

the way he slurs & half-sings reminds me more of liam gallagher

ogmor, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:06 (six years ago) link

i get the comparison conceptually, fwiw, dont think its totally off, but i dont hear it in the vocal style

also the tempos on peep songs are way closer to the slow grind of 'rooster' than they are to 'n 2gether now'

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:07 (six years ago) link

Why would anyone defending the Real Artistry of early 90s alt rock bring up Limp Bizkit?

this iphone speaks many languages (DJP), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:08 (six years ago) link

i think he's suggesting they're bringing up limp bizkit wrt lil peep because they don't want to sully the real artistry of early 90s alt rock by comparing the vocal style to lil peep

-_- (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:11 (six years ago) link

"re-arranged" video is like the prelude to the "n 2gether now" video you gotta get the whole story man

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:19 (six years ago) link

the way he sings faith is p much the same way he songs on other songs

flopson, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:31 (six years ago) link

just one more fight about Peep's influence, and i will straight up FP this shit

flopson, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 22:56 (six years ago) link

I don't give a rat's ass about"defending" 90s alt rock like Alice in Chains or whatever shit I never listen to from being sullied by Lil Peep. I just heard a song, the vocals reminded me of Durst, that's it.

It would make more sense to me though, just in terms of LB's heyday was later than grunge. I don't know. Just thought it sounded like Durst.

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 24 August 2017 00:08 (six years ago) link

idk i could be wrong like i said LB wasn't a group i payed close attention to

a lot of this stuff really is more descended from durst-shepherded post-grunge (with some ‘10s idioms sprinkled in). anyway rip

I took a real liking to this dude and would check YT from time to time hoping for something new. Loved the video where he talks about his tattoos, seemed genuinely decent and sensitive and self effacing. Thanks D-40 for the introduction.
